Union- the event

It was an awesome game, and I'm sick and tired of league fans continuously bagging union, if you don't like it well that's your loss. Union is a more complicated, more technical game than league, and I believe having played both, Union is much, much tougher and more difficult.
The game itself was pretty good despite the numerous handling errors which can be attributed in large part to the conditions. England's forward pack were very good, I thought Martin Johnson showed George Gregan what a real leader is, he led by example, he lifted the team. I honestly can't see why the wallabies keep persisting with Wendell, he is pretty much useless, however Lote Tuqiri on the otherhand has been a revelation, he's got all the skills, the defence, pace, and physical attributes, even though his kicking in general play is still abit dodgy.

Holla if ya hear me said:
There had better be some tries in the game for christs sake!
No wonder people get excited about union tries....They are so rare

And yes I do know the all blacks scored some but really..Who cares!
People get excited about Union trys because they are alot more harder to score, firstly there's no 10 metre rule so teams are literally belting each other every phase, secondly a player needs to think of retaining the ball, in league you get tackled and thats it, in Union, you get tackled you have to think about releasing the ball, etc. Union is how league was in the 80's, tough and brutal, now league with the introduction of the 10 metre rule is more high scoring, but doesn't neccessarily mean that its better, to be honest I'd rather see 1 or 2 trys in a match with tough and brutal defence as opposed to 4 or 5 tries scopred by each team with flimsy defence. Just on the All Blacks, if you saw some of the trys they put on you'd care, some of those trys were simply awesome, particularly the one scored by Daniel Carter against Italy, the Rokocoko spin and flick, you won't see that in league.

I watched the game, and thought for a game of union it was pretty absorbing stuff, England always seemed to be going to win it, but it was a real battle through-out, and a fitting game for the Final. Both teams gave it everything. I have to say though I'm not converted, I still prefer League by a long way.

I wonder if George Gregan (that "fantastic" leader) gave any thought to actually going for a try in any of those 3 instances they decided to play negative football (aka Union) and kick penalties at England.

I guess the Wannabies got their just deserves in the end.

Good thing those League players were there. Two trys and both of them from the well payed converts.

Well case in point, bopth trys were set up in large part by the 5/8th, RObinson ran what 10 metres? to score, all Tuqiri had to do was atched the ball over someone 16 cm shorters and fall over the line, having said that though, Tuqiri and Robinson have definately been the better 2 league converts.

correct me if i'm wrong but right at the start they coulda gone for a penalty but decided to go for it, put the pressure on etc...which resulted in Lote's try. But then again as previously stated i was drunk at the time so i could be wrong!

I don't know, I didn't watch it. Wouldn't have surprised me that the fact they didn't go for a penalty would have had the Poms shitting themselves. Its not a tactic widely thought of in Union to just go for a try.

I'm pretty sure it was some sort of penalty where you couldn't kick for the 3 points (bit like a scrum penaty in our game) not that there's too many of those these days.LOL>

Differential, huh? I knew it couldn't have been a pre-designed thing.

Robinson's try came from a turnover as well.

Yes It's not my type of game. Just on Robinson, he used to play League? I reckon he'd go alright, bit of a zip zip man I thought.

Guys I went to the game and it was bloody fantastic! I had the best time, the game was great, the atmosphere was the best I have ever experienced and I do have to say that it definately beats any top level rugby league game I have been too.
Its just a shame about the result.

Back in 1995-1998 he was regarded as the best winger in the game. He was signed to play for Manly in 1998, but changed his mind and reached a compromise agreement with Manly & the ARL(since he signed an ARL loyalty agreement)

I paid $395 for a ticket and then there is all the money i spent on other games, merchandise and lots of drinks to get in to the party spirit. It was definately all worth it, might start saving up for french.

I'm definetly making sure that I'll stop by France in 2007 to watch some world cup games. Maybe I can tie it in with a few days of snowboarding the Italian and Swiss Alps.

I don't think it is a stupid question, three quarters of the people who went and watched the Union World Cup probably don't give a toss about regular Wallaby games, let alone the Super 12, club level etc.
Good on you if you actually care for the game I was just wondering.

I went to the Bledisloe Cup this year and didn't enjoy a second of it. Hence why I left 10 minutes into the second half. Then again, I didn't pay for the tickets.
