MANLY have lost rising fullback Will Hopoate for Monday night's important clash with St George Illawarra at Kogarah.
His withdrawal continues a disruptive week for the Sea Eagles, who are already missing Test prop Josh Perry (leg) for up to four weeks and have several players in doubt.

Hopoate, the son of former Manly winger John, was named at fullback with regular Ben Farrar out injured.

But now Hopoate has collected a hamstring injury and has withdrawn.

Experienced winger Michael Robertson is expected to shift to fullback.

Young Dean Whare, who scored three tries on debut against North Queensland in Townsville earlier this year, was due to enter the side but he too is injured.

Manly coach Des Hasler may now be forced to elevate a young Toyota Cup under-20s outside back.

Sea Eagles second-rower Anthony Watmough sustained a knee injury against Melbourne last Saturday night and is rated a 50-50 chance of playing Saints.

Hooker Matt Ballin also remains in some doubt after being concussed against the Storm. Perry, off to St Helens at the end of this season, is aiming to return for the finals.

TAB Sportsbet yesterday installed the Dragons as $1.45 favourites with Manly $2.65 outsiders.

Manly's season could hinge on the Monday night game.

A loss could cripple their hopes of a top-four finish. They complete the regular season with games against the Warriors, Roosters and Canterbury.

* DRAGONS front-rower Ricky Thorby yesterday signed with the North Queensland Cowboys.

If Watmough and Ballin play then we are a shot.

Its always down to our forwards as to whether we win or lose and that's especially the case against St George. If our pack is full strength (which it is without Perry :D) then we are in with a great shot.

Would be good to have Hoppa Jnr at the back but as long as the forwards smash their forwards, Lyon, Foran and Matai can do their thing out wide.

Just wish we had a winger to replace Williams...

Whare?

Will probably be going to the game with a Dragons supporting mate. FMD, couldn't have picked a worse week to go.

As NB said, if Ballin and Choc play we're in with a chance. If Ballin is out does that mean we see the unheralded return of Seu Seu? Or would Des put Rodney into the #9?

I actually watched the SUnshine Coast team play last weekend and that fullback Sandow is a pretty good player.

Obviously its a big step up to NRL and not a long term solution but if we're without Hoppa, Farrar and Whare then he could be the option. At least that way we keep Robbo on the wing and don't weaken 2 positions at once.

Im just interested to see who comes in for Hoppa.

Robbo will play fullback.
?? Matai to wing.
?? Rodney to centre.

or

Robbo will play fullback.
?? Matai to wing.
Foran to centre
Cherry-Evans to 7.

What is interesting is if Ballin wasn't to play, I certain he will, who would they bring up to play 9.

Buhrer is playing 9 for SCSE and Seu Seu is playing 6. Seu Seu was the best SCSE player last week.

Would not be surprised to see Dazzler do something like this, I hope he throws a young bloke in though, any other option on the wing is scary IMO.

This article suggests it's between Oldfield, Shorter, Sheehan and Davey.

There were a lot of good players in the SC game last week. The U21s looked scratchy at times last week. Funny thing was both games were on Fox at the same time, so I had to flick back all the time.

I really enjoyed the SC game. It is a much better class level imho. No wonder the NSWRL want to pull players back to NSW's. Not that I agree with the decision though. They abandoned 22+ age group by bringing in the high profile U21's comp.

There are a few options, but clearly we are left with a pretty big whole.

I've been thinking all week we are going to lose this game due to injuries and lets face it, inconsistency. I've changed my mind. If Dashing Des doesn't stuff around with too many possie changes I'm confident we can get a win. Matai in career best, Lyon on top of his game, the youngens in the halves hitting their straps and more than one forward putting their hand up at the same time - we will do well.

I'm a pessimist and to be honest I generally go into games thinking we are going to lose but the last time I had a winning feeling like this was 2008 GF.

This is a huge game for us, if we get over the Saints I think it will set us up nicely for the rest of the season and maybe even a top two.

Yeah Oldfield should be playing, not sure if he will line up on the wing or fullback though, anyone?
