Australia are up to 38th! And we're ranked second in Asia (should be first!).

I'm fairly happy with that rank. Since the World Cup, we've been far from impressive. We did deserve to move up after our recent efforts, but I think Korea are justified in being Asian #1 (I assume it's them, since they've been a better side than Japan for a while now).

It might be a good idea to have a stickeyed world rankings topic at the head of the forum, that way we can periodically update it and discuss - rather than having a new thread after every update.

And because I have a hard on for ELO, he's their top 20.

one. yes 2002 was a fluke. they beat saudi arabia, cameroon, paraguay, USA then south korea to get to the final and got put away. they showed they were sh*t without deisler and ballack. even though 5 players missed the tournament it wouldn't have mattered völler was sh*t

two. marked improvement at 06 doesn't mean they should be the third best team. you probably didn't watch them against georgia did you? they performed better but still didn't put anybody away except for a 30 minute period against sweden. sloppy at the back against costa rica which two spectacular goals took the hype off their defence, lacklustre against poland and they played an ecuador team who were still pinching themselves at making it out of the group stage and gave themselves no hope of beating germany by fielding a half strength team. they dominated sweden for 30 minutes, lucic is sent off, 2 early goals and the game is over and they opted for cruise control instead of foot on the throat. they were put to the test against argentina and for the most part came off second best and then won a lottery in penalties and they matched it with italy but didn't have the creativity to break a well organised defence then they put portugal away in a game neither team gave a sh*t about

three. since the 2001 victory over england at wembley they've beaten teams in the top 10 THREE TIMES and the two came at 06 world cup which one was won on PENALTIES and the second was in a third place play off and the other was last year in a friendly

four. i notice you didn't mention euro 2004. how convenient
