- Australia well up in points
- England up
- NZ down

Some confusing ones:
- Wales up a huge amount of points, and gain 1 place (but they only beat Ireland?)
- France lose points (they won all their matches except England, unless England Knights count I don't understand how they lose points)
- PNG & Fiji both lose points (?)

Wales jumped heaps cos the points for being in the 4 nations is heaps more than the smaller tournaments so thats cool and prob reflects where they are. France shouldn't have gone down since they pretty much won all their games tho I agree. The cooks REALLY have to play some matches b4 the world cup because if they go through in 2013 ranked 20, the lebanese will have even more cause to protest.

Yeah, you get points for playing more games but the points you get are effected by the quality of your opposition. Hence PNG has gone down because they're not in the 4Nations this year while a series of Wales hammerings in the 4 Nations has achieved more than France winning the Euro Cup. It's a reflection of how far the gap between the top 3 and the rest are, as well as how lucrative a place in the 4Nations is.

The Yanks winning the Atlantic also shows that winning a smaller comp doesn't give you a lot of points, although at that end of the scale it still has a significant impact (is that America's highest ever world ranking?)

Makes you wonder what would happen if America could convince Australia to play a warm up game on their way to England. Even if they got smashed they could score a pretty big points lift. They'd just have to convince the RLIF that it was a proper Test.

But most of all you've got to pity Lebanon. That Cook Is result is a direct result of their lack of games. Through their effort Lebanon now sits in the top 14 while the Cook Is aren't even trying to maintain their competitiveness.

Also, France winning the Euro cup and losing to England is exactly what happens every year they're not in the 4Nations. So the fact that their points are pretty much the same is just a reflection of their status quo. Unless their opposition gets a lot more points then neither will they when they beat them.

Probably the same way NZ are ahead of England even though England just beat them. That it's done on points not most recent result.

Australia have played the USA and I think the yanks led 24-0 at one stage before going down against a pretty much full strength Aussie team - how much was drunk the night before by the Kangaroos is unknown though.

I think the rankings are based on games in the past 3 years, average number of games etc so because of this points can be won and lost in hard to understand ways for most but it's similar to the FIFA rankings which go from the past 4 years

I'll try to help.

1. Wales are up for playing in a large competition. More points for competing and qualifying for large events such as the World Cup and Four Nations then winning smaller internationals.
2. The rankings are based on the last three years of course, perhaps the points they got in the four nations a few years ago are now gone.
3. PNG and Fiji have only competed in smaller internationals.

One games doesn't make up for a gap that large, nor should it. England will have to start beating New Zealand semi regularly to get on top of New Zealand.
