the RAM means shit. it doesnt make your card "good". Some manufactures put more ram on and make the ram slower to save money so thats just marketing bullshit. i cant see if thats good for this card though.

anyway, tahts a good card overall but you need a PCI express socket(not standard PCI) whihc is the latest motherboard connection for devices so check you have one. That card will run DOOM 3.

if you ahve that kind of money get a motherboard without AGP slot and buy a PCI Express graphics card as it's much better.

If you go with that board you will probably need to upgrade your RAM and CPU too.

Make sure whatever board you get has enough regular PCI slots to support the cards in your machine that you have now and look for one with on board sound and network card if you don't have cards for those already.

i could intimidate you with specs all day about what to get but remember that buying a brand new board will mean a new CPU and RAM also for you if you PC is that old it doesn't have an AGP slot.

800 is enough to get a new board, gfx card, ram and processor and maybe even a nice case.

If you get that card you will need a new motherboard (one that has PCI Express instead of AGP). When buying a new motherboard make sure it supports your CPU (it will say Socket xxx - make sure the xxx's match! Give us more of your system specs so we can see what you need)

As far as video cards go if you want top of the range got for ATi's X800 XT or Nvidia's 6800 Ultra (they perform almost exactly the same - they will set you back a good $700-800 each however). If you want value go for Nvidia's 6600 as this card is great dollars vs. performance ($300-400).

PCI Express looks like the future but is expensive atm so it's up to you if you go PCIX or AGPx8.

I use http://www.eyo.com.au when I need new parts. They also allow you to build your own system here http://www.eyo.com.au/byos.php .

It probably will survive as AGP was only designed as a temporary solution, but there's no guarentee.

RDRAM is significantly better than DDR RAM, but RDRAM is almost dead because it was so expensive.

I recently picked up an nVidia Geforce 6800 GT with 256 megs about 2 weeks ago... that thing runs doom 3 pretty easily and it's around $800...
