Use of Maguire

Unless Maguire is going to come on at hooker to try and give better service from dummy half than taht nuffie Keating then I see no point in him being on the bench.
The way he was used last week was a joke. All he did was get in the way of the halves and meant we had one less forward on the field which meant the others had to work harder. Against the biger Warriors pack I though this was a terrible decision by Kearney.
Either he comes on for Keating or stays on the bench. I just wish we had someone who could provide good fast service from dummy half. One of the lowlights of the match last week was seeing Kearney throw a low pass from dummmy half to Maguire who knocked on when Parra was inside the 10 and on the attack.

I didn't see him on the field, but hey he might be the answer to our backrower problems. Has Parra ever had a Captain / Coach ? I don't recall that we have ...

Obviously Maguire is meant to be replacing MK at the back end of each half. However the injury to Hayne stuffed up the interchange plans.

Very interested to see how Maguire goes when used to plan, as he has looked very ordinary this year.

When we dont get injuries that stuff up our interchanges and hooking rotations then you can post something like this.

Injuries are part and parcel of the game. They happen every week to every team you need to counter plan for that.

Maguire probably played one season too long. He looked sharp early last year but he just doesn't look like the kind of player who can play NRL standard footy on a week to week basis any more.

I agree if Keating has one thing thats a positive its he can play 80 mins and make a lots of tackles.Id bring the love shack back or POH on the bench and roll with 4 forwards.

His service deteoriated badly in the last part of the Warriors game.

Yeah he can play 80 but he doesn't offer the same standard throughout the 80.

MK for mine is not naturally talented. But he tries hard to succeed. A bit like Robbo.

But when he gets tired, he loses his advantage.

I actually thought the service was poor from DH all night. The halves rarely got a ball at chest height meaning they were rushed on their 5th tackle options. The lack of awareness was frustrating.

But he was picked to be a sub for MK at dummy half. Due to injuries in both games hasnt actually been able to play that position yet. (yes i know he will have to sometimes cover other positions) but its a bit unfair to have a go at him after 2 games when he hasnt played in the position he would have trained for most of the preseason at.

But his job is to do more then just tackle... its to provide the playmakers with nice early clean ball, and he fails to do this for the full 80min, my guess is due to fatigue. Hookers are more then just tackle machines.
