V8 Supercars Australia Terminates Chinese Agreement
Release Date: 26/03/2006 V8 Supercars Australia has terminated its agreement with the promoter of the Chinese round of the Championship. The decision was announced at the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide today. The contract was in its second of five years.
We are immensely proud of what we achieved the 2005 event where more than 100,000 Chinese came to watch V8 Supercars put on a great show at arguably the best motor racing venue in the world, V8 Supercars Australia Chief Executive Officer Wayne Cattach said.
This will not prevent us from pursuing other international events in addition to Bahrain. The formula of guaranteed racing at least 10 times in Australia and the scope of four international events including New Zealand remain firmly on our agenda.
A very positive event last year gave us invaluable experience in uplifting 32 V8 Supercars in two 747 aircraft, in excess of 400 people and placing them in a foreign country. To execute that in itself was a remarkable effort and sets us into a position to go anywhere in the world.
The lessons going forward are, as we have in Bahrain, engaging a promoter that controls the venue and has demonstrated motorsport experience. China proved that to us.
Having said that, the support of the Australian Government, Prime Minister John Howard, Senator Robert Hill, Austrade, the Queensland Government and Premier Peter Beattie was incredible.
We will carry that same support with us to Bahrain in November where we know the event will not meet with the same difficulties as experienced in China.
thank god. that was the worst track ever...
