Sorry Saab... it was great but the best backline i've ever seen was...

1. Brett Mullins
2. Ken Nagas
3. Mal Meninga
4. Rueben Wiki
5. Noa Nadruku
6. Laurie Daley
7. Ricky Stuart

1994 Canberra side vs 1998 Brisbane side is a game i would pay $100 to watch.

yep agreed that backline was one of the best so was brisbane 98

 $100. It costs more than that to go to the Grand Final to see two teams who won't have backlines that good!

Still dirty after being punted from the commentary team and having his pay slashed. Only $300,000 a year now, didums

Well what was the point of your post?

Did you want to turn this into a 'best of' backline discussion.

Oh, I go Johns, Kenny, Grothe, Renouf...

pointless.

Who says it has to have a point? i wasnt aiming to "turn this" into anything, i was merely stating that i would have loved to have all of these current and former Cowboys players (who are all still currently playing footy) all at their best at the same time instead of some at their best and others winding down their careers as ALL of them have played Origin.

But you didn't have them at your best, did you?

Best Qld club team backline - I'll take the 92-93 Broncos over the 98 model.

Julian Oneill over Lockyer?
Willie Carne over Sailor?

No way.

Chris Johns Vs Darren Smith is debatable, but the Broncos 98 Backline was better.

5. Carne

Sorry, but I suggest you look at old footage again before you discredit that backline. Some of the tries scored by that 92 Brisbane team will never be replicated. An all international backline as well. It formed the basis for the 92 World Cup side and flogged Wigan over there, to boot.
And yes, I would take Carne over Sailor.

and that is why canberra smacked parra 68-0

The likes of Joe Bartolo, Scott Mahon, Michael Ericson, Danny Crnkovich and Robert Muchmore.
Please.
Brisbane of 1995 put 54 points on them in one half of football!

Ahh... the year we came 19th...

What I would have given for a salary cap in those dark days...

There was a salary cap back then.

The problem was Parra couldn't attract anybody. Even when the salary cap was $1.6 million, Lazarus wouldn't come to Parra for $400,000 / year.

Fitzy culture.

There might've been a salary cap but why were players just about never squeezed out by it?

It wasn't properly policed or enforced. That's why Brisbane and Canberra were able to hang onto whomever they wanted to keep and still buy top players from other clubs.
