they are probably also wary of giving Witt too many wraps and giving him a big head. the last two games he's lined up against second/third string halfbacks. the test will come this Saturday when he lines up against Gower.

Either way, it's pointless making such comments in public. If it's a discipline thing - a curbing of egos, it's best done behind closed doors. I haven't seen any ego problem, but I have seen confidence, which is exactly what the kid needs. It manifested itself in a nice wave to the camera on Saturday Night.

At thius stage in his career, they need to establish that confidence.

If we sign PJ as a half (I'm still baffled by this), at best PJ would have to start behind Witt.

In that light, I'm annoyed of the comments that have been coming out. Smith, yet again, is destroying the confidence of a young bloke! GET RID OF HIM!!!!!!!

Are you serious PJ is and always will be twice the player that Witt is. If you cannot see this, you have no idea. And don't give me this he is injured crap. he will recover, just wait and see.

A fit PJ Marsh would be the best half back option we have, surely? I cant see how Mick Witt would be a better option, assuming Marsh was fit. It may be that Witt starts next year at half, but ideally the minute Marsh was ready to play a full 80 week in week out, I'd have him at 7 - unless Witt's form demanded otherwise

For what it's worth, I happened to be in the dressing room after the warriors game and Smith and Witt seemed both very happy with each other, they sat chatting for sometime before Smith got up and slapped Witt on the back before moving onto another player, Both were full of smiles.
Also after speaking to Witt, I have serious doubts his confidence is being shattered, more the fact that he just plain realises that he has a lot of work to do and improvements to make to become a top notch 1/2 and furthermore, to me, he seems to have the desire to do so.

GP,

His desire is unquestionable.
It's his talent that remains the unknown factor.

showing promise is better than nothing at all. and by showinf promise i mean he has delivered on occasions he just needs to work on a little bit of consistency

Thats more like it.

He hasn't yet proven that he is the answer to our halfback problems.

GP, that's great info, thanks for that. Still, one wonders why the recent media comments.

Suity, I reckon Witt has done enough, when given a 5/8 beside him.

Sterlo, we all know, was brilliant. He would have been vastly less of a player had he NOT had Brett Kenny next to him. How would he have gone if his career coincided with Wagon at 5/8?

They both showed that they were 'human' from 1987 onwards when both spent time out injured. While both were brilliant players individually and successful during this time they did struggle to guide the team with a lesser player outside or inside.

I wouldn't be a bit surprised.

If that happens....that will be the last straw with B. Smith.

no Colonel, i'm not going to be that harsh, #13 will do me, even #3 or #4 at some stage, but just not #6???????????

maybe he might end up on the bench if some younger forwards start performing (given the opportunity) but i think he should be at least given the start in #13
