Video Ref

Kinda new to this Forum so please forgive me if their is already a thread on this.

This system is in serious need for an overhaul for 2016. It's all well and good to "double check" a try when the refs are unsure, but they refer to it for just about every try these days. There are 4 officials out there capable of making a decision. People have suggested that it is to give KFC 'airtime', that may be, however I'm sure that can be integrated elsewhere.

My suggested for 2016 would be to introduce a referral system. Each team/captain is awarded 2 referrals per game if they believe a try shouldn't be awarded. These referees are getting paid too much to pass the responsibility over to a video referral. Is there a lack of confidence? Are they scared of making the wrong calls? Either way it gets frustrating and takes away from the joy of scoring a try.

If KFC are concerned about airtime, we could go down the old "This try was brought to you by KFC" avenue. Either way, something needs to be done.

Or am I being too pedantic?

You're not a friendly bunch are you! :p

Fair enough though if it's been raised though, the search function on this forum is pretty average in fairness

I actually want them for field goals. There is so much obstruction going on these days. If it were tries they would be over-ruled. st George got screwed by the markers holding back blockers on the weekend - these things influence games and seasons.

One ref, 4 touchies, 2 in goal judges.

Should be enough IMO.

And a video ref ONLY for a Captain's challenge, which they get one of per game.

I'm sick and tired of seeing 100 metre tries - all teams - and sitting up and cheering them on and then the obligatory hand signal for I need a cup of tea. f**k it off. Have the balls to call it or play it on.

The way the system is now it's basically like in cricket where they check for a no-ball every wicket because the umpires are too lazy to do their job.

"I HAVE A TRY ...just check for everything though mate"

Do yourselves a favour and re watch the 97 ARL Grand Final. I watched it the other night on fox. A belter of a game. It was the last First grade game without a videi ref. It was exvellent not having the game continually stopped to check tries and a ref who wasnt afraid to make a call.
