My dream.....

A Rugby LEague fan should be able to log into a form of media......lets say the web.......click on a link...................go to the stat he wants to review.................look at the various summary information regarding that stat.........click on a specific instance.............and have the choice to actually re-witness that particular statistic as it occured via video.

He should be able to control the view...........replay it numerous times..............analyse its root cause and effect..........and additionally be able to "predict" various "what if" scenarios unfold in front of his eyes......with each click of his mouse.

Imagine that level of detail..........for every tackle, pass, kick, assist, minute of every game.

Thats my dream. So close....yet...

well technically we can do that.... we just can't reproduce the data we watch according to NRL Stats and the NRL.

Even though that is exactly what they did in the first place.

I know exactly what you mean...technically it is ready...after 3 years of development. It seems politically its still in its infancy (from my point of view anyway...I cant even send a bloke some Try Assist stats... :(

If it wasn't true it would be funny. It's almost like saying that I'd have to pay to breathe the air when I'm at work because it's contained within the four walls of my office. If my employer owns the buildings and everything within it, then that should include the air as well.

I'd suggest two things to Coxy. Either try and sell the concept to the NRL as surely it would be a saleable resource to them, or come up with a variation of the game that uses articially created players (see www.hattrick.org for a soccer/football version of what I'm talking about).

Either way, it's sad to see something like this fade into oblivion because of bureaucratic red tape and I wish him all the best for the future. Hopefully we'll see VNRL or something similar around in 2006.

It's a pity, VNRL was fun and not overly time consuming once the draft was done.

I was eagerly awaiting the re-birth of the David Hassellhoff/Cliff Richard Cup as something like the Leif Garrett Shield.

I don't understand why the fantasy thing hasn't hit off in this country yet.
The likes of the Uk and US are HUGE for their fantasy leagues. There is a heap of alternatives for every sport.
Someone like the NRL should take a look around and invest in something now whilst it is cheap and put their name all over it.
Everyother sport is doing it.

Why don't they use the stats from the NRL website for the forward tries?

Because the stats are copyrighted, and NRLStats only allow charitable organisations to use the stats for free. Since VNRL sells subscriptions(extra teams, etc.) and has advertising they are classed as a commercial organisation.

They should just copy the stats and say they collected them themselves. How would the NRL prove otherwise

Because you can't collect stats yourself and publish them. NRLStats pay the NRL as the sole stats provider. So anyone/any media that wants to publish stats must go to NRLStats. Creating their own isn't technically legal.
