VNRL has been cancelled because of lack of corporate support, very disapointing for all league fans, I played last year and one my comp beatimg my brother in the GF, I was looking foward to defending my title as I sure were many others. Oh well lets hope it makes a comeback as I really enjoyed this aspect of each season! I would be willing to pay a small fee to with costs!

You'd have thought that the NRL would have learned from the Souths debacle that the fan does not want to be disenfranchised and that competitions like VNRL actually strengthen their product rather than take away from it.

There will be a lot of fans that will be significantly less interested in the goings on of the NRL on a week to week basis because of their instransigence on this issue.

As I've stated earlier, sometimes it help to apply the spirit of the law as opposed to the letter of the law. Obviously that's too hard for Gallop and Co.

Potentially this news is more damaging ot the NRL than the goings on in Bathurst. This strikes to the heart of the hard core fan and allienates them.

It's a pity because it seems avoidable.

Seeing as VNRL had naught to do with the NRL your point is? It was privately run - the NRL run their competition through the nrl.com website and Big League.

Before you get on the soapbox a bit of research might be helpful. ;-)

And what was the NRL supposed to do?

Give the third-party who ran VNRL money to run the competition?

If they did that then every third-party competition would be asking the NRL for money.

Also since the NRL run their own tipping competition, supported by NRL sponsors, those sponsors might have a problem with the NRL providing financial assistance to other competitions.

Have you played thr NRL comp/game.
puke.gif

If they where smart they would turf them and take VNRL as the offical comp/game.

More people would play, and the people who play it and never knew about VNRL would be given a far superior competion/game.

didn't have to give VNRL money at all

simply allow VNRL to use the stats that the NRL have at their fingertips, is all that would have been required

more people interested in some of the "lesser games" each week, more people sitting in front of the box, watching NRL games they otherwise wouldn't

makes no difference whatsoever to the amount of games i watch ... but is a basic common sense approach which the NRL apparantly can't grasp

anyway, the dishes are done

Oink !

Exactly right Mr Pig.

How many people who played VNRL actually watched other games that they would never watch. About 75% would be a good guess. That means more people watching the games more exposure to the sponsers of the game and the advertisers on the telly.

A small price to pay for such massive exposure.

Shame really

I wonder what happened to last years sponsor?

Fantastic game, like everyone else it made me watch every game of the round and actually take interest in clubs and players that weren't with my favourite club.

It made League alot more enjoyable.

I plastered the link to the petition on every forum i knew. Hopefully that can drum up some support.
I suggest people do the same and get as many people to sign the petition.

Wasn't it set up last year to make the runner of it money?

Not that there's a prob with that but if it was set up to make someone a dollar then why would the NRL be supposed to give free handouts?

hopefully i'll have my fantasy league comp back up and running next year after 2 years in the wilderness due to a legal battle with my web developer.

and, as was going to be the case last year, i'd be happy to have league unlimited host it if we can work it out

ps, it shits on VNRL
