Reviving this thread if anyone is interested in the upcoming VRL Finals

Last rd of the season this weekend with a few epic match ups in 2nd and 1st grades Altona V Werribee and Wolves V Waverly.

Altona dominating again both seniors and reserves sitting on top of their tables with only a loss each.

Last weekends reserves game was an absolute cracker with Altona coming from behind to beat Craigieburn in a likely GF preview.
Craigieburn have a very good team this year.

The Seniors Altona V Sunbury game was called off due to poor lighting.

The new Wolves team haven't IMO performed as expected and are a little disappointing.

Will keep updating with finals scores if anyone is interested.
Hopefully some of you guys in Melb can come out and support some local footy. :)

Yes please. I am always interested MB.

Preliminaries this week. Altona Vs Wolves in firsts and Altona Vs Casey in 2nd. They should piss it in in 2nd grade but Wolves are decent enough to give 'em a shake in first grade..

Give em a shake they did, Wolves beat Altona Seniors and Reserves beat Casey. Pretty spot on LESStar

Grand Finals Sunday at Waverly Home Grounds

First Grade
Sunbury v Wolves
Will either be a really close game and go either way or Sunbury will hammer them.

Reserves
Altona v Craigieburn
Will be a super close game, Altona won the match in the normal rounds and Craigieburn won the match in the first week of finals.
Altona will have to seriously pick up their defensive game around the ruck and hold on to the ball. The last couple of weeks they have had a lot of injuries but should hopefully have a near full strength team on the weekend ( can't hardly tell I am a little biased towards Altona  )

Women's tag
Wolves v Craigieburn

That Wolves vs Sunbury game in regular season at Langama was one of the best games of footy I have been involved with in a long time. I'll go Wolves in a carbon copy of Werribee winning 2nd division in their first year in 2009. I might get down for the final on Sunday. I reckon Craigieburn will take out 2nd division personally. A really, really good side. To be honest I'm surprised they don't field a first grade team. Same with Northern Thunder.

I am tipping the exact opposite
1st grade depends really on what side Sunbury field but if they field the side they played against Altona in the first round of finals they will hammer the wolves.
Im not a Wolves fan at all so I just don't want them to win :p

2nd grade I am tipping Altona, Craigieburn are a good side a lot of aggression will keep running hard for days. If Altona shut down Craigieburns forwards which they should be able to do with a few of their best forwards back last week and this weekend then Altona's attack should run all over them. If Altona can't tighten up their ruck defense and hold on to the ball in attack then they will have problems all day. 3 of Altonas best players were back from injuries last week and will be better for it this weekend and their best forward will be back from injury this week as well.

Barefooot Rugby League Ch.180 Fox Thursday night 7.30 - 9.30 pm did a segement on the Wolves last night.

It was awesome to see a Sydney Station come to Victoria and show that grassroot footy exists outside of NSW or Q'ld.

Cragieburn some how pull it out of their arse to win second division by 6 points after Altona gave up a 12pt half time lead.

Sunbury got first grade in extra time. Wolves could have had it but goal kicking let them down.

Sounds like it was a good quality game, seems the quality of the players is getting better & better. Now all we need is an admin to match. Unfortunately I could make it due to work.

Any talk of Gippsland taking up the game again. Surely the VRL/ARL/Storm need to put some directed effort into bringing it back. Surely placing/recruiting a development officer out that way would help.

Ok, a couple other questions

1. Does anyone have any info on the Sunraysia Rugby League? How is it going? Juniors?
2. What happened with the Southern Force? It seems they broke from Moorabin Rams Rugby and collapsed. Is this junior impact because of the Rebels coming in?
It’s now 2024 and we have talks with the nrl and storm and gippsport for some “come and try” programs through the schools! Hoping to get a junior rugby league comp happening April 2025!

with the fold of the rebels and the increasing popularity of the nrl product and women’s comps, we’re in prime position to start the movement!
