true. but this is the type of loss the Warriors were famous for year in and year out till last year.
Just new ways to lose a game. Last time it was our back three going off and gutting our attack.
this week both specialist kickers go off in the same game. Just low percentage things that keep happening. CHT could have stepped up but he didnt.

Its like last year never happened.

Last year we had a pretty settled lineup. This year has been the opposite, players playing injured, constant reshuffles and players dropping out during games. The poor starts as already mentioned happen when you get new defensive combos having to adjust, and CHTs kicking word yesterday were just unbelievably bad luck in a team sense, we lose our first and second choice kickers then the third string guy happens to be a left footer and we score tries on the left.
Did anyone else notice though that he took the conversion attempt for Capewell’s try from the sideline when it was scored a few metres in? That was odd, I thought.

Haha he probably did. Im not a Ford hater but my daughter has clearly formed an opinion

I will say one thing. I’ll be annoyed if we let Jazz leave next year and keep Ford, even if Jazz is older.

Yeah, I'm not seeing the love for RTS. I feel like it has to be partly to do with reputation. It's really not even close with him and CNK at full fitness. Yes he has moments but he's slowed down significantly
I just think if CNK isn’t available then RTS should be 1.

You don’t rate Tuapiki?
I do, but I think RTS is most comfortable there, and offers more. I get the centre decision, and he’s not been done any favours by union, but I don’t think he’s past it, hoping next season will be big for him

Probably my rose tinted glasses but I thought CHT is starting to find some depth on his kicks. We seemed to get the ball down their end a lot better than his other games.

I dunno man, those losses for years, the close ones like yesterday were rarely about finding some defensive starch, rather we would play NSW cup style and score more trys to make the score look more respectable.
Overall there is definitely a more consistent effort at this club under Webster.

Yeah I agree on his kicking in general play, he’s definitely improving there. And his goalkicking is usually pretty decent, just had an off night in difficult conditions where he probably hadn’t had any practice shots and wasn’t expecting to kick.
not sure exactly how windy it was there Friday night but I’d say there was a fair breeze as I’ve been watching the conditions on the NSW snowfields this week and it’s been blowy all week.

Between CHT and TMM the kicking can be dodgy at times, but they haven’t been as embarrassingly light on distance as I had expected when SJ went down.

I don’t really get the criticism of either our defence or our halves. After a soft start we restricted them to a bit of an arsey try off a kick for the last 60 minutes. In the same time we scored 4. All that with a patched together backline.

The problem is genuinely just an inability to win. We have no problems being the better team even at half strength. What we can’t seem to do is make a play, even a play we should be executing 90% of the time, when the game’s on the line. When you can execute throughout a match but lose the last 5 minutes of every close one, that’s a mental thing.

Maybe I'm being harsh but I felt our halves were poor. It just felt like the week before with poor last tackle options / execution. No doubt having rearranged edges didn't help and maybe if I watch the game again I'll form a different view. But gut feel after the match was a lack of direction and hesitancy at the end of sets and that's on the halves. TMM especially feels like a shadow of the player he was a month ago.

I think it was expecting a bit much of TMM to be a match-winner or at the level he was at against the Cows, Penrith and the Dolphins. That was an incredible three-match run, but this is a guy who has played one full season in his career (for the Cows in 2018) and just hasn't had the experience of having to front up week in, week out as the No.1 banana in an NRL halves combo.

Good post. I love TMM but found myself swearing at the screen when they play like champions one week and then go invisible the next week. All indicators suggest the obvious with injuries and the constant line up changes.

There is something I would like to see get embedded into this teamt and that is mental strength. The games we failed to ice is all about that aspect. Not the personnel, not the officials, it's all in the mind.

Storm/Panthers/Roosters can field anyone and still stay in the grind to ice some of those types of games.
2023 we showed glimpses of it, so we are capable.

Who is our mental coach currently?

Dunno if there is one TBH. But if there isn't, maybe they should take a leaf from Madge's book and bring in Gilbert Enoka.

When you say they can field anyone, you're mostly right, but they field those guys most of the time around a large core of experienced guys who have won premierships, and know how to win footy games.

Off the top of my head, without checking this for accuracy, Capewell might be the only guy in our squad who has won a premiership? Egg on my face if I'm overlooking someone.

I tried to chat GPT it, and first it told me DWZ won one with Penrith in 2021, then it told me Addin won one the same year with Manly, and it also told me Chad Townsend won one with Cronulla..then Gemini told me no one had done so.

Glad we're rolling the dice for humanity on these incredibly advanced machines
