heard something interesting in the commentary for one of today’s games. Apparently the new balls feel lighter but actually are the same weight as the old ones. I wonder if CHT was undercooking his kicks as a result, maybe they’ve been practicing using last years type?
You’d hope not, but could be something in it...

Andrew John's was saying something on Thursday nights game after Gus said something about ball floating more. Johns was at Eels training and felt it. But all weights and dimensions same as last year apparently, but it felt lighter to him. So I suspect everyone training with them. CHT quad injury probably more the reason.

I didn't watch the whole game, but seems to me like our major issues/work-ons this year are going to be creativity in attack and scoring enough points, along with kicking game?

I think a bit too early to call our attack an issue, though definitely will be a work-on! It was pretty clear that the game-plan for this first match was to focus on simple up the middle footy, low errors, and strong defence. Hope that CTH's crappy bombs were also a plan, just to manage his quadriceps issue.

Oh definitely for this year, although we struggled to score points last year too (14th in points for)

Here's Jamie Soward's synopsis in his power rankings:

7. New Zealand Warriors (8)
The opening month doesn't change in the NRL. Success comes from holding the ball and getting into a rhythm instead of trying to make it happen by passing your way around. The Warriors kept it simple and put in a very professional effort. They carried on from last year, which isn't easy to do as their opponents the Titans showed. Really happy for the Warriors and Nathan Brown.

It's all very well being a Melbourne/Roosters/Penrith coming into a season with effective, well-established combinations and lots of prior success - you can hit the ground running on attack. For us, we will need to build into it. Fingers crossed we can start playing some attractive attacking footy as the season progresses...
