Difference between $350mill part rebuild and $600mill+ for a new stadium. Not to mention having already spent $150mill on the place they probably feel obliged to keep going.

I'd love a new stadium at Burswood next to Optus (Though HBF Park is a better location imo) but they wont walk away from it now after spending so much.

lol if a new 27,500 stadium can be built for under $350mill why are they spending $310mill on two basic stands for Penrith?

I just gave QCB Stadium as the latest example. You’re not comparing apples to apples here if you think it’ll be $650m.

Cowboys had their stadium and adjoining precinct done for $318m. You’re laughing and yet not looking up examples mate.

proposed $3.4bill for oval in Brisbane, proposed $900mill to replace Penrith with a commbank. 2 stands at Penrith $310mill. Those are the most recent stadium estimates.
Looking back 5 years plus isnt that helpful, which as a builder Id think you'd know.

Taking money away from the stadium build would be a mistake

300 million will a good stadium given what’s been spent before
If the $450mil figure is to be believed then $350mill stadium and $100mill for CofE (probably around $50-70mill) and Jnr funding (the rest) would be the likely split. It would be a shame to see any of that reduced.

And no one has yet explained why a new club needs an additional $12mill operational funding for ten years? Only reason I can think is if the NRl isnt paying the full grant or they have no confidence in the club being able to generate suitable corporate and fan based revenue.

Brisbane isn’t just a stadium it’s an entire precinct with major upgrades to roads and infrastructure in the area. Again you’re not comparing apples to apples.

There’s only been about an 18% increase since 2020.

Something that cost $250m in 2020 will cost about $295m now.

Your upgrades can be done for $200m. Again if you’re spending $300m then might as well rebuild the whole thing for under $350m and be done with it.

The radio guy got that wrong. It is $350m total from WA Govt.

$50m NRL
$50m private investors

Why would they need ongoing help?

The grant/sponsors and memberships are enough once the intial spend is there.

No NRL club loses money as it is now

So not that great an investment if you say no club loses money yet the NRL has to tip in $50m as no other investors can be found willing to part with their money.

Wests Ashfield continue to fund the Wests Tigers.

So how do you explain the penrith decision and costing? They are spending $310mill on two seemingly pretty basic stands and costed a new stadium at $900mill..

That's exactly my point.

After years of spruiking our expansion possibilities, we've added 2 teams in SEQ in 30 years, and looking to add one team in the poorest country in the world.

Very inspiring stuff.
We've also deleted 2 in that same time and area (crushers & chargers) along with lots of other clubs that couldn't last, if anything we've done expansion poorly, and need to set better and higher expectations for better outcomes...

I see the similarities in '95 expansion areas vs now
Crushers》》》Dolphins
Cowboys》》》PNG
Reds》》》》》Bears
Warriors 》》》Christchurch
Same areas or direction some 30 years later, just expanded slower, and not rushed in like '95 was

I am not trying to be argumentative but do you think the $120m is a redirection of the WA government commitment or does it include the $30m that was raised by the private investors (ie only $90m is a redirection and an extra $30m is being chipped in by the govt)? If the govt is chiping in an extra $30m then I get your point about cutting out the middle man and funding it yourself. But if it excludes the investors money and is simply rejigging what the government was initially committing, then you are costing yourself $30m that investors would have put in (less as you said any shortfall in the event an investor pulled out).

Also, if it is an extra $30m the govt is putting in, why does the govt not just pay the $20m licence and save $10m?
The 30mill is a cumins thing, that doesn't exist anymore, (or possibly never did) NRL are dealing with WA govt, Roger Cook, so no 30 million, which was private investors, some of which were from sydney

Dolphins vs crusher is good comparison. Most recent expansion took entirely different, more grassroots approach.

why is what an issue? The Govt has committed to a HBF park rebuild, a CofE construction and Jnr funding. The amount is rumoured to be $450mill with $350mill of that committed to HBF park.

The news this week, which some of us knew as Plan B about two weeks ago, is that the NRl wants the WA govt to also contribute a significant sum to start up and operational costs of a WA club. If the WA govt will pay that or remains in its position of not being willing to fund the operations of a prof sports club remains to be seen. Last I heard two weeks ago from the horses mouth is they werent.
The acronym for a Centre of Excellence is COE.

The England Community Lions wrapped up the Cash Converters Community Trophy last night defeating WA 23-14 at Blueforce Park.
WA looked very green and made too many basic errors to compete against the Poms.
About 30 WA players have played between the CAS Championships and the two games against the Poms. I didn’t count the Chairman’s v England Community game.
Work responsibilities seem to impact with WA’s representative teams quiet often, WA ISC Fuel to Go and Play 2024 team of the year players like Paora Kemp (fullback, Fremantle), Darius Rogers (halfback, North Beach), River Coleman (hooker, Joondalup) and Logan Barclay (centre, Rockingham) were all unavailable.
The same happened with the two games against the English Community Lions as some players were unavailable for the first game, then others were unavailable for the second game.
PR did you go last night ?, both Peter Cumins and John Sackson were there, did you happen to cross paths with either of them ?.

was a good game. England just a bit more polished in their game control. Thought the sin binning was harsh. Considering the player pool england can draw from compared to WA I thought we went ok in all 3 games.

Said hello to John. No gossip other than a bit of rumour mongering around the bar lol, going off comments I think its fair to say Vlandys pontificating hasnt won him many fans in the west!

Thanks. Will be interesting how this all pans out as appears that the original bid was more than just the $20m licence fee short if the NRL is tipping in $50m and investors are bringing in more than the $30m originally reported.

With the NRL now involved, will the licence fee be waived on the premise the clubs will get a share of any future profits if and when club gets sold? is a BG required?
No... why are you making up this whole waving licence fee bit... and stop bringing up the notion of a bank guarantee.. None of that is happening

Wests Ashfield continue to fund the Wests Tigers.

and if you go on their website.

They are listed ( well Holman Barnes ) as a sponsor. So I expect the Bears to have sponsors fund things such as lower grades not the WA government
