PNG locked in for 2028… they need the extra time apparently to get shit set up

They could still make the call for Perth 2027 as late as April/May next year … although they would obviously prefer it sooner
you would imagine even if west aussie bears aren't announced before end of the year that they'll be announced before march next year when season kicks off and west aussie election is.

i would guess if it doesn't happen in december 2024 then it'll happen in january or feb 2025 latest but thats just a guess. only the members with insiders would know what's happening.

redbear? builderbear? perth reds? any updates?

that bad was it?

have you heard anything more on west aussie bears? any inside information you can share with us expansion paupers?
I’ve honestly got nothing, I feel like the biggest expansion pauper out there, I have spoken to a few Bears people but it’s quiet, nobody is saying anything.
As long as the papers keep referring to the WA Bears as team 18 I’m happy, 2027 if still being mentioned I’m happy even 2028.
Imagine both the WA Bears and PNG coming in the same year ?.

thats ok. we can't all have inside agents within the walls of bids and expansion offices.

has redbear got anything? have you spoken to him lately? he might have info he is withholding.

Perth have two weeks to sort things out

Early next year the focus will be on Vegas

There’s no need to drag it out any longer the wa govt should just get it done now

Plus the wa election could mean the govt goes into caretaker mode and doesn’t do any more deals

If it’s dragging out so long then the wa govt just don’t want to get it done since most of the crucial points have all been agreed too

Are you the full quid? I know you're striving to be the bestest rugby league fan eva but this is just nonsense.

The WA premier's life and job doesn't revolve around the NRL. He will get the best deal for his state. And if he can't get a deal then he'll move on. The state of Western Australia isn't going to go bust because the NRL chooses not to put a team there.

And stop pretending you've got any insight into what is going on.

If this post rules me out of contention for bestest rugby league fan eva! than so be it.

You may be right if it is for WA to have a team for 2027, who knows ?.
Otherwise everything will be all wrapped up in early 2025 for a 2028 start.

any issue from west aussie patrons in here that now that nrl are controllers of a west Aussie nrl team that the bears will have significantly more say in their brand etc? I doubt they’ll have a say in how the club is operated though etc.

There is going to be considerably more input about brand and IP protection from Norths than when the WA consortium were bidding.

But yes, all operational decisions will be up to whoever sits on the elected board (reporting directly to NRL). Norths won’t have a say in any day to day decisions and nor should they really.

There will be strong WA representation (picked with NRL and WA Gov’s discretion) and whoever those individuals are they won’t be from the previous WA consortium, those people are all gone.

So yes, Bears have big say in brand but that’s all it’ll be. Hope that answers your question.

Like I’ve always said it needs to respect the heritage of NS but represent that this is a new west Australian club.

ah awesome update. pretty much how it should be. can't have people butchering brands just because plus the location is the crux here and will be well served i think
