I read that it was actually super league that made reds pay for the opposition teams flights and not arl. meaning they defected right after they were accepted into the comp and didn’t understand what they were defecting too.

Haha that’s some dumb logic! They’ve structured it to promote the new direct flight from melbourne to margaret river. Fly into Bunbury airport, watch your team then spend the week in margs before heading to perth to see them at optus the following weekend. Be interesting to see how many nth melb fans it brings over for the week.

most perth nrl games will be lucky to get 100 travelling fans to them In reality.
Way more than 100, otherwise the govt wouldn't be paying 3 clubs to move a home game here next year
There were shit loads of dolphin jerseys at the HBF game last year, more roosters jerseys than I expected too

It sounds like we are pretty close to agreement on both sides and hopefully this delay is just mechanisms of govt to sign off on such a large sum.
when my source said there was still lots of hoops to go through he didn’t clarify unfortunately if that was nrl demand issues or govt mechanisms.
There has been an in-principle agreement for weeks now.

However the finer details ie cost allocation/distribution was still being tweaked. That’s also not to say there weren’t late requests for additions or removals of potential negotiated items from either party since then.

Keep in mind PNG was agreed to in-principle in August however it wasn’t finalised contractually until December.

“Formal” negotiations between NRL and WA Gov didn’t start until late October. This has been posted before.
