The biggest advantage of the bid other than bears link was the govt investing 500 million.

Now that’s been cut to 120 million

This compared to 1 billion for the Tasmanian afl team and 850 million for png

Chch and Dunedin have spent the equivalent of 800 million on their two South Island stadiums

Hbf park in its current format isn’t fit for purpose

It’s Its short sighted from a govt with a huge majority and a surplus on the budget of 3 or 4 billion

Cookie is jumping at shadows of his own making
That was a media made up number and the wa govt as far back as November scoffed at it.

the number was much closer to $100mill for grassroots, training centre in Malaga, temp training centre in Freo and some free stadium rent. Plus whatever they had in mind for hbf upgrade. It’s clear the slack nrl media and the campaign by The West has spooked them and, if true, theyve pulled the idea of hbf upgrade. it is impacting on the revenue generation of a future nrl club and hopefully a compromise position can be found.

re nz2, yes they’ve got a great stadium coming in Christchurch. But with no govt support unless there is a bid with $100-150mill on the table to pay for start up, training centre, grassroots, a license fee and elite jnr development, plus bank guarantees then they are in no better a position than perth.

They’ve got two stadiums better than Perth will ever have

And already produce huge amounts of juniors

The minute an nrl team is added to chch they will be flooded with players before they even start actual junior development which the southern orcas bid has said they will spend 2 million pa on

All the union junior systems in nz will feed into an nrl team who can cherry pick the elite talent

Big difference between kids born in Christchurch region leaving to be developed elsewhere and having development system in Christchurch.

yes but those systems need to be built and paid for. WA has more RL clubs than Christchurch.

Kids won’t need to leave chch when there’s a local team

They will just slot into the under 16 to reserve grade sides

Wa clubs are participation award

Like afl uses Auskick numbers in qld

They won’t produce elite rugby talent like South Island does

You’re being a bit contradictory here. On one hand you say png will produce hundreds of nrl players as they have lots of kids playing but lack the systems.
And yet when it’s pointed out that wa has as many, if not more, kids playing than most nrl clubs catchments you say improving the systems won’t make any difference. Strange argument.

Because png rugby league is the national sport getting the pick of players

Whereas in wa it’s an afterthought and despised by the local media and many afl fans

And nz has already proven it can produce juniors

Over 4K Kids playing RL in WA isnt an afterthought lol. At the moment the best kids are going to union as there is pathway and system for them at home. We don’t have that so it’s not surprising we arent producing players.

Those stories come from somewhere and it’s well noted Vlandys uses the media to leak news. Cook called him out on it directly.

it was a story using months old information that was dressed up as new by two idiot journalists who didn’t seem to realise there was a WA election campaign going on … this rehashing of old news regularly happens on the expansion stories as I’m sure you know …PVL said he was as surprised as anyone about the timing of the story because he had agreed with Cook to keep silent until after the election …

Union isn’t going anywhere in wa

And it’s still picking the kids that can’t make afl clubs

Those wa rl clubs aren’t on the same standard of traditional east coast ones

Chch will have no issues with juniors you claiming otherwise is nonsense

Yeh those 5ft 10 105kg players are in huge demand in afl lol
Of course they are not, as they dont have the funding and systems, yet.
Same dumb argument people Make about png and the fact the hunters, after a decade and tens of millions of $’s in handouts, have only produced one nrl player. Numbers + systems = first graders.

you’re literally making this same argument i am in the png thread lol
