WA Reds Win Final Game Away Against Penrith
The Cash Converters WA Reds played one of their best games of the season to win against Penrith Panthers 28 22.
It was their first win away in their second season of the SG Ball competition and a signal to the other states that the local development in Western Australia is starting to provide the talent needed to be a competitive force in Rugby League.
It was the final game for the Reds in the nine game draw for 2011 and will still mean they miss out on the finals, but give them a taste of what is possible. Given they lost two winnable games earlier, it has been a successful campaign for the Reds in their second season.
Coach Andrew Korn, was beaming after the game.
The boys played with passion and showed what is possible. It was something we have been telling them and they now understand what they need to do. With a longer season, I am sure we could have gone event better.
Korn will stand down as coach next year and is very happy to finish with a win.
The Reds were 16 6 down at half time after Penrith scored on the bell, but felt they felt they had played the better. Mistakes and ball handling let them down.
In the second half, they played smarter and over ran the Panthers 22 points to 6 and always seemed to have control.
Try scorers included Dylan Rintoul, Jason Doran, Louie David, Luke Turner and Jaline Graham, with Graham converting the goals.
Best players for the Reds were Ross Mati-Leifi, Eddie Proudler and Graham.
