Wallabies finish Euro tour with Scottish victory

The Wallabies have come from 10 points down to beat Scotland 44-15 in the final rugby union match of their European Tour.
Australia ran in five tries to two.
Wallabies fly half Stephen Larkham was man of the match. He said the victory was a good finish to a difficult tour.
"I think the media has certainly been on our backs and rightly so," Larkham said.
"I think we've had some disappointing performances over here and I think the main thing is that as a team we feel like we're improving.
"I think it showed tonight that we've come a long way on this tour."
Larkham said the Wallabies performed much better against Scotland than they had in earlier tour matches.
"I just think our discipline [was better] and [we were] sticking to the gameplan.
"We didn't try to throw those 50-50 passes and really did the hard yards through that first half and in the second half it sort of opened up for us," he said.
"We copped a fair bit of stick after losing in Ireland last weekend, so it was nice to put on a bit of a performance in the final match of the tour," Larkham said.
Australian coach John Connolly hailed the performance as vindication of his strategy of using the tour to blood new players and experiment with different back line combinations.
"As far as I'm concerned there are no negatives out of the tour whatsoever," he said.
"We are happy where we are, we know we've got work to do like everyone else and we will be starting to do it. But tonight I'm just very happy for the players. It was a wonderful result for them."
Scotland coach Frank Hadden admitted: "We were well-beaten by a better side who played very well.
"I think we have made progress in the autumn series but we just did not perform with the accuracy that you need to to compete against a team like Australia."
The atrocious weather that had been forecast for the Scottish capital failed to materialise, sparing the Wallabies a repeat of the trial by wind and rain they had endured en route to a 21-6 defeat by Ireland in Dublin last weekend.

All comes with picking the right backline. Aka Rogers far far far away from it. Larkham finally had one of his good days which helps and our front row actually dominated!

Good. Finally gave our best no12 a go and look what happened! Take notice Connolly! Giteau must play halfback IMO. He was sensational. Tuquri is on thin ice, he has done bugger all this entire tour! I agree about our front row, although Moore needs to learn to throw!

What do you mean Tuqiri's done bugger all? He slipped over to allow Scotland to score untouched... oh and he dropped the ball one metre out with the line wide open. He's done worse than bugger all, IMO.

Giteau needs to play at 12. He's still our best outside centre, and that is where he will play at Super 14 level. You don't throw a halfback into a world cup who doesn't regularly play there. Besides that, Gregan is still the better halfback, and skipping the tour will do him wonders for next year.

Wallabies player suggests a look at positional tweaks to improve misfiring backline
Wallaby Mat Rogers has put his hand up to play rugby at first-five next year, claiming Australia's experimental back line needs more games together to function properly.
Rogers was given two starts in the number 10 jersey for the recent tests against Wales and Italy when coach John Connolly opted to switch regular pivot Stephen Larkham to second-five and Matt Giteau to halfback.

Connolly restored Larkham to first-five for the final two tests, dropping Rogers to the bench, but Connolly says that is the nature of rotation policies that aim for a competitive squad of 30.
Meanwhile, captain Stirling Mortlock is not too disappointed with the Northern Hemisphere tour results of two wins, a draw and a loss. That is just seven wins out of 13 for Australia this season.

All Connolly has done is make a backline that was working disfunctional. It was the forwards that werent working why play with the backline?

Mat Rogers is sh*t. If Connolly puts Rogers ahead of Larkham at fly half then we will be lucky to get out of the group stages at the world cup.

If Gregan plays 9, we'll be lucky to do that as well!

Gregan is the best scrum half we have. Have no fear locky, he will lead us to triumph.

Do you really think your proposed combination of Berrick Barnes and Josh Valentine will do that? f**k you're dumb.

You deadset goose. Larkham and Gregan don't have flair or the ability to score tries? Do you even watch rugby?

Larkham has a kicking disease at the moment, he kicks it all the f..king time even though he is s..t at kicking! When was the last time Gregan scored a try from running the ball for Australia! Giteau scored 1 this tour that Gregan would not have scored!

Gregan ran the ball quite a bit for the Brumbies this year. He was immense, and showed why he still deserves to be Australia halfback.

The character assassinations by the likes of Peter Jenkins, David Campese and Greg Growden, who all hate Gregan only because he's a Brumby and no other reason, are starting to take their toll on you locky. Here's a hint for you: watch the bloody game, don't just believe everything you read.
