Wallabies finish Euro tour with Scottish victory
The Wallabies have come from 10 points down to beat Scotland 44-15 in the final rugby union match of their European Tour.
Australia ran in five tries to two.
Wallabies fly half Stephen Larkham was man of the match. He said the victory was a good finish to a difficult tour.
"I think the media has certainly been on our backs and rightly so," Larkham said.
"I think we've had some disappointing performances over here and I think the main thing is that as a team we feel like we're improving.
"I think it showed tonight that we've come a long way on this tour."
Larkham said the Wallabies performed much better against Scotland than they had in earlier tour matches.
"I just think our discipline [was better] and [we were] sticking to the gameplan.
"We didn't try to throw those 50-50 passes and really did the hard yards through that first half and in the second half it sort of opened up for us," he said.
"We copped a fair bit of stick after losing in Ireland last weekend, so it was nice to put on a bit of a performance in the final match of the tour," Larkham said.
Australian coach John Connolly hailed the performance as vindication of his strategy of using the tour to blood new players and experiment with different back line combinations.
"As far as I'm concerned there are no negatives out of the tour whatsoever," he said.
"We are happy where we are, we know we've got work to do like everyone else and we will be starting to do it. But tonight I'm just very happy for the players. It was a wonderful result for them."
Scotland coach Frank Hadden admitted: "We were well-beaten by a better side who played very well.
"I think we have made progress in the autumn series but we just did not perform with the accuracy that you need to to compete against a team like Australia."
The atrocious weather that had been forecast for the Scottish capital failed to materialise, sparing the Wallabies a repeat of the trial by wind and rain they had endured en route to a 21-6 defeat by Ireland in Dublin last weekend.
