Can anyone help us out with pictures of the old Giants/Seagulls ground?

The ground WAS attached to Seagulls Leagues Club from what I remember. It is just over the border in NSW apparently, but was completely bulldosed. It is now a carpark, I'm told.

The thing I remember most about games there were the striped tops of the goalposts, the Seagull mascot with its big beak and wings & the "seagulls UGH UGH Seagulls UGH UGH" chants coming over the PA.

It is a shame it isn't there now, as it would have been a great stadium for a potential A League franchise as well as the Titans in the GC/Tweed area. Or is Robina more central to the population growth of the area?

What is the story with Seagulls Stadium? Why did they can it? was it that they wanted to make the most out of Cararra? Was the Tweed/NSW deemed to be too far for everyone else to go to games? Were there problem with transport? Parking? The fact it was in NSW? The fact that it was closer to Murwillumbah than Coomera?

Are any old Seagulls or Giants fans now following the Titans?

When the licensed club (Tweed Seagulls) got under the whip financially the seagulls were no more and the Chargers were born after briefly being known as the Gladiators under the ownership of a local businessman called Jeff MULLER. MULLER's ownership lasted 5 minutes and the ARL came in and ran/created the Chargers. Part of that was moving to Carrara, which geographically is a lot more central Gold Coast than the Tweed which is southern Gold Coast. I can't speak for myself but I did get the impression lots of Gold Coasters did not really adopt the Seagulls/Giants as they were looked upon as a NSW team. The Chargers had good support up here and were financially sound until Murdoch/Ribot's vision shafted them.
Robina is more central again, will be the right shape, not round, and is also on the train line for any Brisbane people who don't like the Broncos. I beleive the Titans will be very successful and wish them well. I'm just dirty I don't get to see the mighty bluebags up here. Gives me an excuse to get down to Sydney once a year and see them.

I nkow this is probably only going to be a bit of a tease but they have some great shots (including aerial shots) of the ground at the Seagulls club. Wally Lewis' tribute match was played there, maybe that can help you out.

I've also got at least two games on tape played there, but doing a quick skim I didn't see any useful shots.

Thats a good shot. Better then nothing.
However, after that point the stadium got an upgrade where it was raised and more enclosed. Both the east and west stands had corporate boxes and weather shelters over the stands. Played there a fair few times, lots of memories! I was shattered when they tore it down!

wow, looks like a fantastic little ground (shame it was before my time).

At least with the construction of Robina the gold coast will finally get a world class RECTANGLE stadium again.

Nice little ground. Shame it had to go in the name of "progress".

Not quite progress....
The Seagulls club had a trillion poker machines that needed to be used so they built a housing estate for people just to use their pokies!
(Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe there is some type of age requirement that needs to be met when moving in there, e.g no one under 50 or some crap)

The ground was privately owned by Seagulls. The Leagues club had gone through some trouble times in the late 90's and early 00's. With no major tenant, the expense of upkeep combined with the clubs financial woes the club would be crazy not to develop the valuable land.

The stadium was located in a horrible position on Kennedy Dr for access with no major parking or public transport links. No major sporting team would play there in the future, the club did the right thing.

And the state government may have been less likely to fund the new stadium at Robina if Seagulls Stadium still exisited.

And that's the key point. It doesn't really matter how good the ground was, it was in a position that made it almost impossible for a professional team to survive at. Short of putting the ground on the back of a truck and moving it twenty kilometers north, it was quite rightfully doomed.
