I don’t get how it could be allowed to happen. Anyone with decent spreadsheet skills would have been able to work out very quickly that the back ended contracts weren’t going to stack up. The fact that those deals got through and signed off by senior management is hard to comprehend.

The NRL warned them they were facing a shitstorm but the dogs kept on spending. This is purely on them and not the governing body. No other club is in the salary cap dires like the dogs, everyone else used their brains and prepared for a $9.5ish mil salary cap.
I get that. My point is the NRL still registered the Foran/Woods contracts on what appears assurances they were fixing the others(they obviously didn’t). The NRL should have twigged to the fact they accepted the Foran/Woods contracts(taking them above what they were warned about)but got no contracts showing decreased value or requesting to move players on.
Don’t get me wrong, the Bulldogs ran the gauntlet & have fallen badly but I think the NRL accepted the ‘she’ll be right mate’ line too easily.

This time last year it was the Panthers who were facing salary cap problems, having budgeted for a higher cap in signing up their squad. Once again, the scribes and pharisees were guessing and once again, they guessed wrong.

Des Hasler's fall from grace has to be historic in Rugby League terms. Here you have a multi premiership winning coach who will now be remembered most for vandalizing a club to the point of bottom 4 irrelevance for close to a decade, probably.

According to the Paul Kent Foran is on well over a million a year and on a back-ended deal. You could make a case for signing Woods initially I guess, he was the Kangaroo prop after all. The Foran signature though is all on Des. I mean how many red flags did they not see with that guy.

Initially you thoughts were the Axis of evil - Hasler, Castle & Dib were the sole creators of this but I’m pretty sure the NRL was complicit through incompetence/ignorance.
Sure, the Dogs might argue that the cap wasn’t finalised & they were working to the initial figure but it’s nuts to think they didn’t see this coming knowing the level of back ended deals & the ones just signed - Foran & Woods.
Anyway, Des looks done, Dib would have enough money not to care & Castle is Unions problems now(hahahahahahahahahaha).

But what did they think the cap was going to be and why did they think it would be so high when no one else did? Seems like they rolled the dice and crapped out.
