Here is acopy of my sum up of the match from my regular 'Knights team for ....game' thread on WORL.

The best thing about this game from a Knights point of view is the fact that it is over.
The Warriors were seriously outclassed, but someone forgot to tell them that.
They never let the Knights relax for a minute.
It is actually very good to see such a committed Warriors side.

The Knights had some good efforts from players who have not been 'staring' so far this season, which is a very good sign for the rounds to come. Players such as Kennedy, Johns, Buderus and Parsons, who have been leading the way for the team, had very quiet games. Players like MacDougall, Gidley, and Ryder were very much improved on recent weeks and O'Davis continues to improve.

There are a few players who have been improving in leaps and bounds over the last month or so, and I would like to give them some well deserved wraps.
Steve Simpson is a total workhorse and is improving his ball handling and involvement in every game. The turning point for him came with his game for country origin. Before that game he was mistake free but very one dimensional. He tackled his heart out and made the hard yards but never ran at gaps or attempted offloads. He is nowshowing both those skills and still remains one of the safest players in the NRL, almost mistake free.
Julian Bailey is the perfect utility player. He manages the positions of centre and second rower perfectly, allowing the Knights to have a four forward bench. He is not a compromise player, he plays both positions at genuine first grade standard.
The last player I think deserves a huge wrap, and an apology from me, is Sean Rudder. Rudder would have been man of the match if it were not for the four try effort from Maca. At the begining of the year I didn't think Rudder would ever make a 5/8, and I said so regularly. He has proved me very wrong. His long passing game today was as good as Matty Johns and his running game was far better. His kicking is still ordinary, but who cares with Joey in the side.

As we start to look towards the finals many of our players are finding good form and the team is starting to really 'gel.'
The backline looks a better 'unit' without Tahu breaking down play in the centres, and I would put him on the wing when he comes back if it were up to me.

Great report Roopy. Yesterdays game was one of the best I have seen all year. I was standing for almost the enitre match and it was great entertainment compared to the all too common tryless tests(?) that RU are dishing up. A friend from work who is a kiwi said the All Blacks test sucked and thought the Warriors game was a corker. I hope everyone can see how important it is to have a competetive side from NZ. I felt sorry for the Warriors but I will predict they will be a force next year.

your mate was right legend. i only suffered 20 mins of the A.B,s and turned it off.
the warriors v knights game was one of the best i,ve seen this season.the stace v joey contest was brilliant and all our forwards put their hands up.

it looks like paleasina (mr effective) is out for the rest of the season with a ruptured spleen and cleary had a visit to the team doc as well.

bring on the dogs.

If they are competetive I am sure the tide of public opinion will turn in their direction and the NZ Warriors will be the team on everybodys lips. I want to see Ericcson and Westpac stadium packed to the rafters and create a real "house of pain" atmosphere and make every home game a major event and a graveyard for opposing sides. They have the nucleus of a great side and the big fellas are going great guns.

Oh man that really sucks about Paaleasina though. He was rapidly becoming the find of the season but he really needs as much first grade experience as possible to be able to realise his obvious potential next season. Lets hope he recovers well and keeps his confidence.

I just wanted to back up the point you made about support for a winning Warriors side Legend.

I work with a Kiwi (one of the many NZ teachers that has come to work in th UK for £s).

We were chatting about sport and he spoke about how he was at the NZ v Aus RL tri nations at Erricson.

He said it was the first RL game he had ever seenand that today it still remains the best sporting event he has ever seen (despite the score)! What I also found interesting was that he said the "Me and my two mates said that's it - next year we're going to be leaguies............only the Warriors were crap so after a few games we stopped going".

I just know that when the Warriors DO eventually get going they are going to be huge!

Lets not forget that the NZRFU know this - the formation of the Warriors was the final event that had them pushing for a fully pro RU.

The problem modern day sport faces is the fickle nature of fans who only have a pseudo type loyalty to a team. As soon as the going gets tough they switch across to whoever is winning and effectively become bandwagon jumpers. The average sports fan of today has too many choices and in the long run that means less loyalty. The only time I have not seen this happen is in the NFL. The fans in the U.S are very parochial and narrowminded which is why they have huge sporting markets. Each major city despises the other. I follow the Denver Broncos in the NFL and in season 1999/2000 the team finished with a record of 6-10. Hardly a great season but they still managed to sell out a 76000 seat capacity stadium for every home game. It is the presence of the crowd and their demands that make clubs always strive for success.
