Was Peter O'Sullivan pushed?

NZ Warriors owner Mark Robinson's passion for his club is clear to see and his message to the club for next season is crystal clear too - turn up to win.

Speaking to Newshub, Robinson drives home his desire to keep improving the culture of the club and lifts the lid on the recent departure of recruitment manager Peter O'Sullivan, leaving for new side Redcliffe Dolphins.

"I don't want to knock the guy, because that's not my style, but he didn't really fit our culture," Robinson says.

"People were always a bit wary of him, but since he's moved on, there's been another build in that area. Everyone's really starting to come close again.

"Now they realise probably what I saw is what they should have seen, but they didn't see it, because I'm a bit more away from it than there in it everyday."

I missed this when it came out last year.
All I know is that our squad is a lot stronger with POS's recruitment.
Could be the blunder of the decade for a club not without a fair share of bloopers.

Fairly obvious from that that Robinson and O’Sullivan just don’t like each other I think.

The culture and personnel around him are paramount to Robinson - so much so, he was initially hesitant to see star halfback Shaun Johnson return to Mt Smart.

"Me and Shaun have had our differences, but I played golf with him one day and I asked him what he could bring to my club, because I never thought Shaun would ever be back at my club," Robinson explains

"I said, 'Tell me what you're going to bring' and he said 'I'm going to bring experience, not raw talent anymore, I'm going to bring experience to take the team around the paddock... I really want to finish on a high and win a Grand Final with the Warriors', and that was good enough for me."

Takes a lot to convince ol' Marky boy!

He clearly fit the culture, he brought drop kicks to the team, the team continues to bring in drop kicks.

Begs the question was Gus elbowed because he didn't fit the culture.
I thought Gus & POS were two of the best signings we have made.
Leave it to Mohawk.

I doubt it with Gus, he couldn't be in NZ doing what he signed on to do.

This Robinson guy strikes me as the same old shit we've always had as owners. Corporate guys with massive egos, statements to match and nothing tangible to back it up with.

I'm sick of administrators saying too much publicly. It's not about you.

Unfortunately owners hold the chequebook so they can say what they like. I just hope he isn’t all short arms and long pockets like Watson.

100%. And they'd say 'well the reporters rung us and asked' but nah, tell them the coach does the talking and you do the business in the back room.

But then again, that's the lure of the ownership - you're likely to lose money, so it's the ego dividend that they're after. Same as most professional sports teams.

Exactly, people don’t generally buy footy teams as investments, they’re rich man’s status symbols. It was actually one of the few things I liked about EW- as an owner he generally gave the impression of being pretty hands-off and left fronting the club the coach and CEO. But in retrospect it seems that that extended to not giving the club sufficient resources after his initial enthusiasm wore off.

I stopped over in Sydney for about 12 hours in 2015, en route to the USA. While I was there killing time I managed to leave my phone on a park bench and it turned out that someone had picked it up and taken it to the local police station (it was too late for me to get it before flying to the US by then). Peter O'Sullivan went to the police station and collected it for me and I eventually got it back. Thus concludes my Sully story.

Oh dear. What is our culture exactly?
Do we have it written down somewhere?

Poly drums and middle-aged women with their hair in buns watching from the first few rows. You need it back asap.

Also, reminiscing about the good ol days of 01-03 is a big part of the culture. Lau'uli Monty Betham seems to be doing a good job of it on his new show "Once a Warrior".

Literally was watching a game from 1995 during one of the lockdowns and saw my Nana sitting in the front row
