It was certainly an amazing finish and I said in the game day thread the last couple of minutes reminded me of 97. In saying that I thought there was a fair bit of dropped ball and missed tackles and I don't think the things I would associate with two teams at the top of their game - timing of passes, incisive runs, cohesive defence - really occurred in any great quantity. If the last try didn't happen I think it would've been a pretty standard grand final to be honest.

This, the finish was immense but other than that the game 3 weeks ago was of higher quality

It was entertaining but don't mistake equality for quality. Both sides were ordinary in defence in the first 60, attack was flat throughout and the kicking games were bog average.

Don't even get me started on JT as MOTM... he wasn't close to the best player in that game.

^^^ This, for all the people crapping on about both teams being shit and derping it up, for a thread like this to pop up straight away says it all.

It was certainly the best finish in recent memory but I dont think it was the best game ever

Certainly not a game of great quality by any stretch. Broncos played extremely negative tactics in the second half and the Cowboys nerves got the best of them for parts of the game IMO.

People will only remember that ending though which was pretty f**king amazing.

Everyone will probably always look more favourably on the Grand Finals their teams were involved in though so this is pretty impossible to measure.

Very close second. Of course I have some bias toward 89 but I just think the "moments" were bigger in that game. Plus the Raiders had to fight a lot harder to come back and get over the top of Balmain. Never had the lead until extra time, while the Cowboys were only ever a try away.

Easily the second best I've seen though. Incredible game.

Quality wise no but that ending was amazing.

2013 was very high quality.

Lacked the Hollywood finish.

I blame David Williams. Somebody should beat him senseless with a hessian sack full of discarded syringes and old Doorknobs.

Yeah I rewatched the 2013 and 2014 Grand Finals today. Both were enthralling, lots of big collisions and everybody playing out of their skins (except for David Williams). A lot of players in today's GF were below par, especially Thurston

No, this was the second best GF I've seen, '97 being the best. The way the Donkeys we're playing that boring outdated Bennett ball in the 2nd half took away from the spectacle somewhat.

The finish though, was nothing short of amazing and no other code can even dream of competing with Rugby League in this respect.

Awesome game. Best GF I've seen IMO. Both teams were quality and the cows just kept coming. A match tieing play literally on the bell, can't ask for anything else. Well done to both teams.

I know you were emotionally invested, but last year was a shithouse game.

2013 was an excellent quality match but the Qualifying Final in Week 1 of that year was the superior game. Lacked the drama of this.

this years was the most intense, enthralling spectacle I've ever seen.

FMD Im an eels fan and I went f**king ballistic when feldt scored that try.

Its the greatest IMO. I can understand why some think it isn't because of its slow second half but you cant underestimate the broncos defensive efforts to shut down Thurston and Morgan for 79 minutes and 59 seconds.

It was a bit of a snoozefest for a lot of the second half mostly thanks to the Broncos, but the '97 like ending certainly redeemed it.
