Amazing innings from NcN, but his bowling is a bit of a worry. Hell all our bowling outside of Cummins & Starc is a worry. We lack that third strike option.

I know he's lacking match fitness since injury earlier in the year, but I still would've taken Hazlewood over Kane Richardson in the World Cup Squad.

Gayle was lucky the bails didn't move when he got bowled, and had an incorrect decision over turned. Michael Holding carried on like a pork chop about the umpires call when Gayle was eventually dismissed not the fact that it should have been a no ball which I assume came up later in the night, it didn't come up before I fell asleep on the lounge.

Yeah, Holding was a bit unusual in commentary last night. Starting crapping on about plastic bags, plastic bottles....didn't know he was a spokesperson for Greenpeace.

I was astonished that Hazelwood isn't there... if he's getting fit surely he's a good option for later on

Very surprised Hazlewood was omitted. I know it's been mentioned in the media that the selectors are resting him for the Ashes, but with the large amount of prize money on offer at the World Cup (not to mention the prestige of the event), Hazlewood has the experience of having played in a winning World Cup squad in 2015, not to mention he's got that Glenn McGrath-type line and length that troubles batsmen. On his day, he's far more threatening than Kane Richardson. It's a big shame Jhye Richardson had that shoulder injury in the UAE that ruled him out of this tournament, as I've been impressed with him since he made his debut, and was producing some strong performances until the injury. Our World Cup hopes in the bowling department hinge very heavily on Starc and Cummins building a lot of pressure in the first 10 overs.

Also, not all convinced with Behrendorff. He's been part of the squad that saw Australia win 8 consecutive ODIs in the leadup to this World Cup, but he just doesn't have that venom in his bowling that Starc/Cummins/Hazlewood do.

Stoinis has been extremely lucky to be in the starting XI. As much as I hate the nepotism shown to the Marsh brothers (especially Shaun) in the past, I would've taken Shaun Marsh's ODI batting form in the top 6 of the batting lineup over a wannabe all-rounder in Stoinis: a habit the Aussie selectors have been obsessed with since they lost the 2005 Ashes. Nearly a decade and a half later and they still think we can unearth the next Andrew Flintoff out of nowhere. Australia's 5th bowling option is where opposition teams can easily exploit them on good batting surfaces.

Not sure but there seems to be something going on, right?
I agree that since those zinger bails started to be used over the past decade or so, there's been numerous instances around the world of the ball hitting the stumps where the bails don't fall off. The main purpose for their use was for T20 matches at night to see when the bails had been dislodged, but with most games this World Cup being during the day (and even the handful of day/night matches finishing around or just before sunset so it's not completely dark), they could've done without them.

Yeah I fear it might bite us. But then again hard to leave NcN out now he got the 92.

Perhaps you could take Stoinis out and bring Behrendorff in?

Stoinis has definitely got to go, no question about that.

But as I said in my reply to JJ's post, I would prefer to have an in-form, specialist batsman batting in the top 6 rather than a wannabe all-rounder. Remember two years ago during the Champions Trophy when we had Henriques batting at NUMBER 4?????? Complete joke. I wouldn't have an issue is Shaun Marsh came in for Stoinis. Marsh still has a place in ODIs, but I wouldn't have him in the Ashes squad as he's had enough opportunities at test level.

In saying that though, although Maxwell's bowling was reasonable, he can't keep playing suicidal shots like the one he got out on 2nd ball and still expect to remain the starting XI. Very frustrating player to watch, because he definitely has the talent but lack of discipline and concentration at key moments.

Also Lyon in the ODI squad, it's going to be hard for him to get a game unless Zampa gets injured or has a Mick Lewis at Johannesburg 2006 moment in this tournament. With the spin options, you have Zampa and Maxwell (so, combination of finger and wrist spin), not to mention Steve Smith and Aaron Finch can also bowl part-time spin. I'd be surprised if the selectors go with two frontline spinners in Zampa and Lyon in an ODI, like what happened during 1993-95 when Warne and Tim May were the specialist spin twins. A slow, turning pitch (which you rarely see in ODIs in England) would have to be dished up to justify that selection combination.

I'm just not sure we can drop Stoinis for a batsmen. Our 3rd & 4th bowling options are already pretty weak, can we get 10 overs out of Maxwell, Finch?

Also feel our way to win this thing is not through out batting, but through our bowling. Starc, Cummins & Behrendorff would be a handy trifecta. Too much pressure as it is on Cummins & Starc to perform.

If Stoinis goes it should be a batsman. Don't bat NCN at 7 it would remove one of our strengths a deep batting line up. Stoinis and NCN were the two I had ??? over starting the tournament. NCN still needs to bowl well to cement his spot but he is the clear 3rd bowler for now.

NCN was bowling some pies last night, that can't continue if he's our 3rd bowler.
