Alright, everybody gather 'round.
I wanna share something special with y'all.
I hope I'm not treading on anybody's turf, I don't mean to take over this section, or anything.
You have to trust me on this one.
If you're a Grid Iron enthusiast then see the movie We Are Marshall!
Go rent it now!

We-Are-Marshall-Soundtrack.jpg

I've put off seeing this film all this time because I thought its PG approach wouldn't be hard-hitting enough....but this film is not about a football game..it's not about football..it's about the human spirit.
Show respect going into this film though...don't think you're just seeing another football film about backs to the wall - we'll overcome adversity and win in the end like all happy ending sports type films - it's not about that.
This film is moving and I'm making an effort to buy this film within the next few days.
This film's special.

My favourite part was when the coach walks in on the quarterback and he asks him not to bench him, then he tests his shoulder with a few punches and the quarterback says his shoulder's fine and starts crying.

Powerful stuff.

The end when the assistant coach sits in the locker-room alone crying is powerful too.

It's strange to see a big name film company tell a story about the under-dog for a change.
These guys weren't world beaters and I hadn't heard about 'em until I watched this film last night. They didn't set the world on fire and they had the worst record ever in college football but they had spirit and heart and it's well captured in this film.

Great acting to boot, different to that Slaughter House Rule thing I watched the other night, man that was odd, that film caught me off guard but it was still good all the same.

We Are Marshall is a beautiful film.

I hope that Slaughter House Rule film isn't brushing off me when I talk about the word beautiful.

You've all got a job to do...now go do it! Go see it!

What other grid iron films are there to watch bar Any Given Sunday or Mark Walhbers film about Philli?

P.S. you gotta hear this.....in the post office just then, right? I go up to the lady and ask for a money order to buy this $100 book...I says to her, 'will I just bring this back here?' and she replies, 'yer, just come back and give it to me!'

I'd be lying if I said it didn't make me frisky.

Sorry, I shouldn't have confided that....I'm trying to show respect to my mentioned post topic.

But how she said it, that's how she'd whisper to her old man of a night.

P.P.S. There's 30% off every purchase at Everlast stores! I got a great hoodie for $52.
Check it out.

Well said! Well put. Exactly.

My mom didn't show enough respect while watching it and she thought it was just another movie about football and rising from the grave and winning like Rocky or The Mighty Ducks when the odds are stacked against you.

What a great story.
An underdog story for a change.
There's too much emphasis put on winning in uplifting films in my opinion.
It was refreshing to see a change for once.
You don't have to be a winner all the time to be a champion.
There are champions in defeat sometimes.
Tell those stories.
We're not all winners is what I'm trying to say.

I noticed it's on Foxtel where they put it on the movie one and two channels and movie great channel. Normally they'll reserve those channels for below par films.
It deserves better and should be on Showtime by rights.

Go see it!

NFL and loving it! It's the season to be jolly!

By the way....rather strange of me to be buying a hoodie when it's friggin' 40 degress today don't you think?

Giants to beat Philli.... Steelers to beat S.D. unfortunately.

Ravens to be bundled out next time too. Pussies they are.

Rivers will cost S.D. if he deliberately spikes like he does, I don't care what you say, Big Tim, that action will cost him against the Steelers.
Pay close attention to it next time and watch it cost him.
On the field with the punter! Waste of a down!

Remember the Titans. Very similar to We Are Marshall. Based on a true story.

Gridiron Gang - The Rock, decent movie about kids in detention centre using football to get out and move on with life. Again based on a true story.

Rudy - Sean Astin before he became a hobbit. Another true story along the same theme as the Mark Wahlberg movie.

Another decent one is called The Junction Boys- telemovie based on Bear Bryant's first year at Texas A&M. Bear Bryant was a famous coach and one who Jack Gibson used for inspiration.

If you like these sort of movies, another good one to see is Coach Carter but that is based on basketball.

if you go through and look at sports based movies it really is more about the human spirit/emotions than just the game. Coach Carter, Remember the Titans, Friday Night Lights, Glory Road. We Are Marshall is a good movie though

edit: btw there is a new one coming out called the Express which everyone should check out when it hits cinema's. Based on the story of Ernie Davis, guy who went to the same college as Jim Brown, broke all of his records and then went to the same time before getting diagnosed with leukaemia (sp?). could have been something really special

Friday Night Lights is my favorite football movie.

I also like Varsity Blues, but I grew up in the Dawson's Creek era.....

A punt is better that a TO.

yeah Friday Night Lights was an excellent movie and a great read. The series Friday Night Lights is also an underrated show with a great cast. One of the best series going round

id rather see him throw it over the sideline and then punt on 4th down then throw it at polimalu (sp?) and he picks it and runs away.

I have seen the movie and it is very good. Well worth viewing even if you are not an american football fan.

Friday Night Lights eh?
Haven't seen it.
Who is in it?
I've been told to watch We are Titans or something? Once we're Titans?
I've got some DVD (doov-dee) at home now I rented called Radio about football.
I'll watch it tonight.

I don't mind Varsity Blues either.
Remember the school teacher, Ms. Davis? She was out of TX chainsaw the next generation.
Great tits.

The Faculty sort of lingers around a ball game as does The Wonderers.

Hey, you know what? All this talk of football reminds me of the glory days.

I myself was once a great player in the day.

tacticstwo.jpg

The wild parties that would follow after a win.......passing my grades based on my throwing arm.
Man they were the days.
People wanted to be me.
I was once a member of the Dallas TX all-stars.....now, today, because of other committements people don't want nothing to do with me.
Funny isn't it? One day you're a champion the next people flea ya.

Coach Carter and Remember the Titans are my two favourite sports movies, if you guys say this is up there with them, ill go out and rent it... but ive avoided it because it seemed very cliche

BTW, varsity blues was f**king ordinary but Billy Bob and Tweeder were f**king great charactors... and ali larter in a whipped cream bikini isnt a bad idea either
And i thought FNL was very average, but i watched it with a chick who was bitching about it all movie and i at the time, hated american football... might give it another go

One of my favourite movies of all time.
They have great websites dedicated to the real story...which was a tragedy.

In the movie Remember The Titans, the team Captain..'Gary' I think is disabled in a car crash prior to the seasons end.

He accepted his fate and went on to become a highly successful disabled athlete.

The real tragedy was that he was then killed in another car crash by a drunk driver.

Varsity was terrible, but the 2 characters mentioned and the fact that I came from the Dawson's Creek era meant that it was great.

Another terrible one is The Replacements. Based loosely around the player strike where the Skins kept their replacement players when all other teams were welcoming back their stars.

Yep.. very good movie. Come to think about it most movies with NFL are pretty good provided it's not that tacky sh*t. Can't remember the name but the Philly Mark Wahlberg movie is quite good.

The Titans is good, Friday Night Lights is awesome as well and so is the book. Any Given Sunday is pretty good as well.

Saw at the end Chad Pennington from Miami played for Marshall as well..

Byron Leftwitch played for Marshall aswell, and his toughness got him drafted real high.

He busted his knee, and couldnt run, or really walk, so he played a bowl game from Shotgun, with no drop, and his O-line carried him to each line of scrimmage.

Teams looked passed his limited mobility and slow release because he showed so much heart..... too bad many times in the NFL ability wins out over heart.

Others may know more about the story, or you could probably find clips on youtube, though I cant get the stupid thing to load.

SSFC Hitman?

Arggghh, Jesus christ!
I hired that Brian's Song with your recommendation and watched it last night with my Dad! Christ all mighty!
What bad timing!
I didn't know it was about that.
I had to apologize to Dad after the film as I thought it was about football.
Christ I felt bad!

This version we watched was the recent one...there's the original one with Robert Redford and Orlando Calrissian from the 70's.

The part where he finally declares that he loves his wife was powerful and moving.
Christ I felt bad!
