We have 2 players in the Kangaroo backline this week..

That hasn't happened in a non-SL Kangaroo side since 94. Actually we haven't had 2 Aus players in any positions since 94. Are we on the verge of something special? I think so. It's a testament to our amazing attacking ability and true heart. Campese and Monaghan straight up forced the selectors to pick them, and that's the only way Raiders get rep jerseys. Ours have ALWAYS been earned, every single last one of them. Aint no Tupou's & Gallen's in our mix.

Here's to Monas' & Campo's meteoric rise, and their continued success at test level. May many more Raiders follow in there footsteps.

Say it with me:

'The current Australian 5/8 is a Raider'

Feels good, doesn't it?

Phil Graham will be next.

You heard it here first ;-)

In all seriousness, Shillo, Tilse and Picker could make a genuine run of it in the next few seasons.

Lol @ Phil Graham. I Agree Picker Could Make The Rep Side One Day In The Future Though.

Lets not forget that Shillington has been 18th man for the maroons with old farts Price and Civoniceva in his way. They will retire soon and Shillo will be one of the first in line to get a senior rep jumper.

On the other side of the coin, NSW were very ordinary up front this year. You would assume Kite will force his way back in the team and then there is the likes of Cross and White who have been pretty average at that level. Given that, Tilse should be primed for a big run for a blues jersey around 2010.

Picker has already worn the PM's XIII jersey and will be a great chance for a country spot along with Campo, Tilse, Graham, Monas, Tongue, Thurling, TLL and J Carney IMO.

Did Campese actually play? Was he injured?

I couldn't find any reference to him on the League Unlimited live scores. I can't get stats off the NRL website because I use a Mac. The RLWC08 website only has scores. I refuse to watch Channel 9's absurd delayed advertising bonanza.

The bits I did see, he wasn't involved. It was the Thurston/Hunt show. Am I paranoid? Tell me it wasn't another "Ryan O'Hara selected for State Of Origin then left on the bench" style debacle.

Just found it on another thread - he walked off with an eye injury around the 20 minute mark when the score was 12-0.

I hope it's not too bad. I certainly hope it's not Phil Graham syndrome - finally get selected for a rep guernsey then get inured early in the match and lose the best part of a couple of seasons.

he got hit in the eye accidently by Costigan of all people. He is fine and tbh they missed a good 5/8 out there afterwards, Hunt was so slow.

Campese though wasnt much involved, probably got a touch of the footy last out of the starters and put one bomb up

I thought Campo looked pretty good up until the injury. He had a couple of good touches and was involved in Australia's second try with the wrap-around.

So did I. He was warming up to a great game and showed a few touches of class out there in limited minutes.

what comments did he make?

Got this off the GH site

No love lost between Raiders teammates
By James Dampney

Papua New Guinea forward Neville Costigan has little sympathy for Australian utility Terry Campese, despite possibly ending his Canberra Raiders teammate's World Cup campaign.

Costigan faces a one-match ban after being charged with a careless high tackle for the incident in the 16th minute of Australia's 46-6 victory in Townsville which left Campese with a bleeding eye and blurred vision.

It brought a swift end to Campese's international debut and has left him fighting to retain a place in the side for the rest of the tournament, with just the semi-finals and an expected finals appearance to come.

Campese has been cleared of serious injury, but even if he recovers in time for Sunday's second semi-final, he could struggle to get back into the team after fellow utility Scott Prince came on and starred against the Kumuls.

Asked at Sydney Airport if he was feeling for his Raiders teammate, Costigan said: "Not really. It's just part of the game.

"One of the reporters came in last night and said Campese had to go to hospital and I didn't think anything about it, I didn't know if I'd done anything to him.

"But this morning (I was told) I went in to a tackle and hurt him.

"I feel a bit bad but it's part of the game."

Campese wore sunglasses that hid the injury and swiftly departed the airport without speaking to reporters.

He has some swelling around the eye and will continue to be monitored by team officials.

Costigan said he was sitting next to Campese on the flight from Townsville, but "didn't see him".

"We were on the same flight, I was sitting right next to him actually, but I didn't see him," he said.

"He left pretty quick, he might be a bit dirty, but oh well, that's the way it goes.

"I got no hard feelings against him, I don't know if he's got anything against me, but I was just playing footy."

Costigan's PNG teammate Jason Chan has been cautioned by the match review committee after being charged with contrary conduct for unnecessary contact to the head/neck of Steve Price in the 48th minute of the match.

Fiji prop Iowane Divavesi was suspended for two matches for tripping in his team's loss to Scotland on Wednesday following a hearing conducted just hours before his team was set to play Ireland for a World Cup semi-final berth.

The winner of Monday night's clash gets to meet unbeaten favourites Australia in the second semi-final at Sydney Football Stadium on Sunday.

Regardless of who wins or the other semi-final between New Zealand and England, Costigan doesn't think anyone can prevent the Kangaroos claiming another World Cup.

"Nothing's impossible, but Australia's the best team in the world and at the moment I don't think anyone can get close to them," he said.

Ahh, poor old Nev. I actually saw him interviewed on Win news about it and he seemed a little more sympathetic, but he certainly aint the sharpest tool in the shed.

I have to say though, I thought that was the best game I've ever seen him play. Pretty well involved against good quality opposition and didn't do anything particularly stupid.

How can you sit next to a team mate on a plane and claim to "not see him", yet you're able to tell the press he was sitting next to you, thus proving that you in fact did see him.

WTF?

Get the f*ck outta here Nev...you meathead.

I guess having a team mate smash you in the head so you started bleeding from the eye would be an excuse not to be able to see him! (but it's not Campo we're talking about) ;-)

Yeah, it's pretty poor form...and probably expected too.
