Cowboys scrape home
June 5, 2004

St George Illawarra 12 Cowboys 14
THE North Queensland Cowboys upset St George Illawarra after Dragons' half Matthew Head missed a conversion five minutes from fulltime to tie the NRL match.

Dragons reserve Ben Creagh had latched onto a grubber from five-eighth Daniel Holdsworth to score and give Head a chance to send the game at WIN Stadium in Wollongong into extra time.

Head, who had missed with his previous two attempts, took the conversion even though regular kicker Mark Riddell was on the field.

The match started disastrously for the Dragons in the 3rd minute when winger David Howell, on his line, passed the ball to Cowboys winger Ty Williams who dived over for the simplest of tries.

Josh Hannay converted to hand the Cowboys a 6-0 lead.

Cowboys halfback Chris Sheppard's clever kicking game set up a try scoring opportunity for forward Glen Morrison, but instead he ended up being stretchered from the field after a sickening clash with Dragons fullback Ben Hornby.

North Queensland were continually allowed to offload the ball, with the Dragons dropping off tackles and not wrapping up the ball carrier.

The Dragons were dealt a big blow in the 22nd minute when skipper Shaun Timmins left the field in agony clutching at his left shoulder, though he did return in the second half.

The Dragons finally got on the board when centre Matt Cooper took advantage of a very flat pass from Head before brushing off a feeble Sheppard tackle to score 10 metres in from the touch line.

A try either side of the break, to reserve forward David Fauimu and Matt Bowen put the Cowboys well on top at 14-4 before the Dragons started their charge.

With 16 minutes to go in the game Matt Copper made a fine 30-metre break through the middle of the ruck. Two tackles later Howell scored wide out after chasing through a Head grubber to get the Dragons back in the game.

The Dragons though had left their run too late, and despite the late try by Creagh, the Cowboys were deserved winners.

NORTH QUEENSLAND 14 (M Bowen D Fauimu T Williams tries J Hannay goal) bt ST GEORGE ILLAWARRA 12 (M Cooper B Creagh D Howell tries) at WIN Stadium. Referee: T Archer. Crowd: 10,524.

what an orgiastic feast for Joke of the League enthusiasts so far this week.

Firstly we have high profile, over rated Bwaithe Airgasper ruled out and the 'Dogs come good.

Then frontrunners for JOTL, the eels knock off the k- niggits up at their own round table.

But in a result that will surely install a new favourite the Cowboys have turned up at the Win corrall and brought in the dragons - mostly dead but a little bit alive.

This will surely install the dragons as new favourites

New Market

Dragons $3.00
Breathe Airgasper $3.50
Eels $3.75
NRL judiciary $4.00
The Stripping rule $4.00
The Roosters - betting suspended - we want a fair go here :)

  Beautiful work by the cowboys. It was truly great to see the Dragons lose at home and against a team they expected to beat. Egotistical morons got what was coming to them.

I'd nearly consider paying money to watch them lose, but the thought of having to endure 80 minutes of a Dragons game is too much for me to cope with.

We are crying.
It was a dsgrace by our players to be beaten by a bunch of fragile females, like that rabble of a merged entity.
They obviously adhered to the old rule of not hitting women when they played them last time.
But that is easily confised when most of the women in worstville are more masculine the St Illawarra players. have better moustaches too.

What do sharks fans have that dragons fans don't?

Teeth, showers, looks and intelligence.
