NRL Stats ‏ @NRLstats The average #nrl points per game is currently at its lowest in 2 decades (37.2pg)
I'm floored by this stat. Why do you think we're not scoring as much these days? Is it because our standard of halfback/five eighhts has lowered. Or is it because defense has improved dramatically?

I think it's because of the gradual extinction of the little bloke in our game. The way the game is heading I think one day an average team will be 13 guys between 6'2 and 6'6 and between 95 and 120 kg.

I think this stat cannot be ignored and something has to be done.

We need to lower the amount of interchanges allowed to 6. Ofcourse an injured player going off wouldn't count.

But we need to make the big men tired in the 2nd half so there is some value to a quick 5'10 75kg player in the game.

Why so we can get pathetic scores like Toyota Cup of 54-36...no thanks...we should leave it as it is....if you want high scoring games...stick to Toyota Cup where no-one can tackle

I subconsciously felt that there were less points being scored but not by that amount.

I think it may be ball handling that could be to blame. Across the board it's been generally abysmal.

I do agree though with the idea of reduction in interchanges (6-8 would be ideal) but this isn't the reason for the decline in points scoring BunniesMan.

After all, we've been at 10 interchanges for almost 6 seasons, if not more.

Yeah sorry about that stat. That's our fault for scoring a whopping 18 points combined over the last three weeks.

So you can probably put those figures down to these three entities:

Braith Anasta
Mitchell Pearce
Parramatta Eels

Love your signature Bunniesman, is that the first prediction you have got right? There are some other cracker ones out there about the Bunnies making the 4 and no excuses if they don't make the eight this year, etc

Eels games have been fine. Over the average in every game after their first.

Your mob just defends too well.

Seriously what a stupid stat. You don't need a shitload of points for an exciting game. Dragons/Souffs last year a case in point. Great game with no points scored before 70 minutes IIRC.

We need to copy AFL and have no defence at all. Just points scoring every 3.5 minutes. This way league will triumph.

Teams need to put up more bombs.

 It's remarkable we still have that stat and teams now let it bounce after a bomb!

Defense has got better. Obviously if you look at all the wrestling moves we have today in the tackle....I'd love to see some stats of how much quicker the play the ball was back in the day, or something similar like ratio of day games to night games. Maybe players weren't as bulked up and could run faster?

I guess we'll never ever find out.

THE END.

It sucks that the little guys like Billy Slater just can't have an impact on the game these days...

Because improvements in fitness have more than made up for it. But that's not a bottomless pit. At some point that hits a ceiling. Big props SHOULD be buggered by the end of the game and in 99% of cases they're just not.

Interchanges should be adjusted accordingly.

And it's about more than just getting more tries and making big players tired. It's ensuring a place for a more diverse type of player. If the game evolves (or devolves) to a place where it's only a place for big man mountains that makes it boring and we may well send robots in to charge at each other.

When big players have the advantage in the 1st half and small agile players in the 2nd half, then we've got the balance right. And that's not the case at the moment.

I'd also be for abolishing the scrum to help with this.

Anyone can pick a regular 8 point win. It takes something special to make a call that extreme and to get it right. The equivalent of predicting Slater scores 6 tries next week and then him doing it.

I know people wOnt take this post seriously cause its bunniesman but I agree

Not because of the points but I do believe players are so fit these days that 10 is too many. I think 6 is perfect

Teams are still finding their feat in attack, the points per game will rise as the season goes on
