I thought of something odd today. For most of the clubs existence we've had a "star" halfback in Jones or Johnson, yet we were actually more consistent in the years that we didn't (06,07, 08, 10). Can probably add 2011 to that as Johnson debuted halfway through and was still a rookie. It's like in those years the whole team actually put in because they didn't think they could rely on one of the SJs to pull a genius play out of his arse to win it for them.
Wellington, Taranaki and Waikato respectively. No decent props emerging from Auckland it seems, which means are our u20s and reserve teams are not indicative of the talent in NZ, as they are predominantly loaded with Auckland players. How far and wide are our scouts looking? Mannering is one they found outside of Auckland and is arguably one of the Warriors greatest ever. You know what we also had during (most of) that period?
Matulino, Packer, & Rapira.
.
Taumalolos agent to the Warriors "Haha heard you guys were interested in Jase"Apparently they made an enquiry about Jason Taumalolo. Hearty lols ensued and they have said they were just joking.
I fear NZ league maybe going through a drought in regards to depth, more specifically, young up and comers. Auckland league is fairly monitored by Aussie club scouts. Wellington seems to be as well with the Storm picking up Nelson. The rest of the country is pretty quiet. Union doesnt help and neither is our uninspiring Kiwi performances as of late. Im just not hearing much potential coming through.Wellington, Taranaki and Waikato respectively. Does the club have too high an opinion of the players coming out of Auckland? Wellington used to be a stronghold for league. Lomax brothers anyone? And when Auckland does produce a good prop they head off to Aussie.
Jesse Bromwich played for Manurewa Marlins until his family moved to Australia in 2006. Was that to give his career a boost or was it other reasons? When is the next decent prop from Auckland going to play for the Warriors. Vete, Gubb and Lisone dont make the grade in my books.
