With all this vitriol being directed at News Ltd, their lackeys in Gallop and others in the NRL and media it may be time to hurt them in the place they most cherish..their bottom line.
The most obvious actions are a fan boycott of News Ltd products or related products.
Their newspapers are the Telegraph and the Australian..these are the obvious targets..refuse to buy a copy of either of these tripe for a period of up to 3 months or more for example.
Next is to target the advertisers in these particular publications..now advertising particuarly in the print media is feeling the pinch of late..a large number of individuals or consumers being proactive and contacting these advertisers by phone or print would be of a concern to them.
If the number of boycotters is in the hundreds it may not have much of an impact, however if the numbers rise to the thousands then any company, even a US multinational like News Ltd would be uncomfortable with those numbers.
It depends how many people are genuine league followers and feel that News Ltd as 50% owner and as league broadcaster is too much of a conflict of interest and not in the interests of the game.

One problem... how does one boycott the advertisers if they're also boycotting the papers?

Problem is getting your message across to enough people for this to happen. It's also not just about not buying papers, it's avoiding foxtel, which is the footy itself, and avoiding any news ltd owned websites etc. Nice idea, but threating such a large company with a boycott just isn't going to work.

another problem is all that all this controversy and attention on league is great for News, their paper sales would be going through the roof. This story alone could carry them for months.

Hopefully if and when SBW goes to court, we get to finally see how much News LTD is short changing the game. Hopefully all financial details will come to light and we can see how much the NRL is really worth.

Cancel Foxtel and go to Optus.

Sure News Ltd and Foxtel own some channels (about 4 in the basic package) - but they'll be getting significantly less money than people subscribing to Foxtel.

And people in NSW people can easily buy the Herald every day. People in QLD will have to stick to just buying the Herald on Sundays, as other days we get it a day late.
