I think you're right on both counts, especially the first point, asking guests to pay attend is ludicrous.

If I ever get married I would much rather presents, I love opening presents. Even if I end up with four blenders (actually four blenders would be great, I have bad luck with blenders, they always break or stop working).

My Mrs was debating over the colour of her dress. I told her that it has to be white. When she asked why, I said it was because she needed to match the rest of the kitchen appliances.

I am surprised by the amount of people against the idea of paying for your own meal at the reception. If its a good mate wouldnt you rather they put the money saved toward a house deposit rather than blow it getting a heap of people pissed? If you are only going for the free piss you probably shouldnt really be going anyway.

Dont host a big party if you cant afford to feed everyone... derp.

Nothing wrong with asking for cash rather than a gift.
