Great effort by Craig in nailing all 8 games last week...

For Round 2, I'll run with:

Melbourne
Kangaroos
Adelaide
Fremantle.

Every year, at least one NAB Grand Finalist performs very strongly across the season proper and Adelaide & Melbourne appear the best placed sides to do that here.

One of these two teams will most likely win this comp.

Didn't realise i'd nailed the 8, wish I could do that come season proper!

Definately won't be tipping Nth Melb this week, will apparently have a lot of outs.

I'd say your right Kev, I've actually tipped Melbourne to give the regular season a real shake this year.

Good news come through overnight too with Richmond & the Scummers to play a tribute game up in Mildura for the kids who got run over the other week. Good to see the clubs doing something for that community.

Yeah, Melbourne will be hard to toss. They look to have a good mix to me, although they looked that way last season, but faded badly as the season progressed.

I know the Kangaroos are planning on resting a few, but I think they have good "practical depth" as a side. For mine, depth is largely overrated as a concept, mainly because when quality sides call upon their depth, there is clear step down to their next tier players and such sides invariably suffer as a result. The Kangaroos strike me as different in that there's not considerable talent gaps across much of their list, and while they don't have many superstars, they also don't have many out and out duds.

I really rate the Cats and this is definitely the danger game, but the Kangas probably travel better and I think they can stand up well here.

A weakened Hawthorn performed very well against a very strong Adelaide side at Aurora in the season proper last year, but the Crows are very keen to consolidate on the gains they made last year, and will be too strong to toss here.

The Dockers absolutely destroyed Collingwood at Subi last year and should be able to dispose of this Magpie outfit with a minimum of fuss (although the Dockers are hardly a side to be betting the farm on).

Yes, its a good initiative by both clubs. These are the sort of good will exercises that the AFL should be pursuing wherever possible to give some meaning to the preseason agenda.

Cats beat Kangas in Cairns
Sportal

Geelong is the third team to advance to the semi-finals of the NAB Cup after defeating the Kangaroos 1.10.17 (86) to 1.8.3 (60) at Cazaly Stadium in Cairns on Saturday night.

The Cats join Melbourne and Adelaide in the final four and will now tackle the winner of Sunday's match between Fremantle and Collingwood.

After a tight contest in the first three quarters, Geelong opened the game up in the final term kicking four goals to one to close out the win.

In humid conditions, Jimmy Bartel was superb for Geelong, racking up 20 posessions, while fellow midfielder Cameron Ling also saw plenty of the ball (21 touches).

Gary Ablett was also in the Cats best and debutante Matthew Stokes was an effective player.

For the Kangaroos, acting skipper Brady Rawlings had 24 possessions, but tapered off a little in the second half after being one of the game's best up to the main break.

Veteran full-forward Sav Rocca booted three goals for the Kangaroos, while youngster Jesse Smith continued to show promise.

The only blemish for the Cats was that last week's nine-goal hero Kent Kingsley injured his hamstring during the third quarter and Jarad Rooke was taken from the ground in the final minutes of the game after hitting the ground hard.

KANGAROOS: 0.4.1, 0.5.1, 1.7.3, 1.8.3 (60)
GEELONG: 0.3.3, 0.4.4, 1.6.13, 1.10.17 (86)

NINE POINT GOALS: Kangaroos: Pratt
Geelong: Byrnes
SIX POINT GOALS: Kangaroos: Rocca 3, LeCras 2, Hale, Harris, Thurley
Geelong: G.Ablett, N.Ablett, Bartel, Byrnes, Kelly, Koulouriotis, Ling, Lonergan, Milburn, Spencer
BEST: Kangaroos: Rawlings, Sansbury, Smith, Pratt, Green, McConnell
Geelong: G.Ablett, Bartel, Ling, Koulouriotis, Byrnes, Stokes
INJURIES: Kangaroos: Nil
Geelong: Kingsley (hamstring), Rooke (suspected concussion)

Adelaide and Melbourne will go head-to-head for the NAB title in next weekend's semi final in the City of Churches.

Adelaide has a good structure and got a strong workout from a determined and lively Hawthorn side last night.

Adelaide deserved the result, but I was disappointed to have lost nonetheless, given that we weren't short of chances. When they kicked three goals and didn't give us a solitary possession in the opening five minutes of the game I thought it was certain to turn ugly, but it prompted a great fightback that was eventually foiled by another short and sharp Crow burst at the start of the final term

The game was much better than last week's Hawks-Tigers clash and the Hawthorn performance far stronger than on that occasion.

The Crows are setting a strong early pace and will be hard to beat in 2006, with a good balance across the park.

As Kennett spoke, a vocal Hawthorn supporter yelled out: "Glenferrie Oval is still our heart." Kennett replied: "It may be our heart, sir, but like you, from time to time, we move our homes. We are moving homes because we're preparing for the future and we can't always look back to the past."

lol

How strong is that view amongst the fans Kev?

From what I've seen of it, the revamped Waverley facility is fantastic and will serve the club for years and years.

I really don't think most fans care, and nor should they, as fans of any AFL club should be happy to have their side still in the competition and should be supporting genuine moves to improve the structural and financial viability of the club.

Glenferrie Oval is a decrepit facility that hasn't been housing top level matches for over 30 years. Playing home games predominantly out of the MCG (unquestionably the best sporting ground in the country) and basing training and administrative facilities out of a state-of-the-art centre like Waverley (at a lease cost of a $1 a year) is a fantastic development for the club.

Some traditions of the game need to be kept, but too many people wax overly romantic about old suburban grounds.
