As a result of the New Zealand Warriors upset 18-15 victory over the Melbourne Storm, the Sharks are just one match away from an appearance in the 2008 NRL Grand Final.
As the second highest ranked winner in the first round of the finals series, the Sharks now have next week off, moving straight through to the Grand Final qualifying match the following week.
The Sharks will then face the winners of the Brisbane v Melbourne clash next weekend for a place in the premiership decider.
New Zealand and the Roosters come together in the other finals match up next week, to be played at Mount Smart Stadium in Auckland, with the winner going on to play the Manly Sea Eagles.
The Warriors victory over Melbourne came down to the final minutes, with winger Manu Vatuvai dashing down the sideline before finding Michael Witt in support, the five-eighth touching down wide out with less than 90 seconds left on the clock.
The upset win by the Warriors sees the Canberra Raiders joining the St George Illawarra Dragons in dropping out of the race for the 2008 premiership title.
