I can’t quite express how grateful I am that we can finally put the 2025 season behind us.

Now that I won’t be watching the Dragons on weekends I can finally spend time on more enjoyable hobbies - like sticking hot needles in my eyes while getting my taint threaded.

Hope everyone on the forum finds similarly constructive ways to indulge their masochism during the off season.

Well you are obviously not a genuine supporter why don't you show your real colours.....bullfrogs maybe...... purple cheats .....scumulla maybe....I'm really curious to uncover who the f**k you really follow.
I am St George Dragons supporter f**k Illawarra's losers DNA, in their short history the Illawarra Steelers were nothing but the easy beats of the 80's and 90's, the quicker St George Dragons go back to there winning DNA roots, the quicker they will become a team worthy of respect.
On paper, the St George Dragons never deserved to make the 1992, 1993 and 1996 GF's but they did from there past history of winning DNA.

Can't remember a season that's been so utterly disappointing and considering the long line of crap this club has dished up since late 2012 through to 2025 that's saying something. Only season worse was the diabolically shite Griffin team in '23 but at least I went into that season knowing how bad it was going to be. That we avoided the spoon in '23 is still a miracle in my eyes.
I still think SF is the best possible coach at this time for us but geez unless he takes a good long hard look at our defensive structures and makes serious changes and unless we pick up an NRL quality front rower or two, plus a quality half of course, its hard to see how we get up out of the scrapheap in the near future. A club still paying for a decade of inept decisions...........
The only hope we have is the green shoots showing with the young fellas coming through.
I truly hope we score a decent recruitment scalp or 2 in the off season or I can't see us coming even close to bridging the gap between us and the the top 8 teams.

I'm losing faith in Flanno. When I looked at our roster at the start of the year, I thought we had speed out of dummy half with Cookie and Liddle, a gun centre in Holmes, decent ball playing forwards in Luc and Sua, and a couple of fast wingers in Sloan and Finau. And I thought Flanno would be smart enough to come up with playing strategies and a game plan to best use those resources. Instead, we had the same plodding defence, the same strange bench rotations, and no noticeable strategy. Injuries were an issue, sure. But I wonder too whether that was just bad luck or whether some of that was due to poor conditioning or training or pushing the young blokes too much before they were ready.
Anyway, not much you cna do other than hang on and see what happens next.

Actually in the time the Steelers were around (82-98) both the dragons and the Steelers won the same number of titles.

Zero.

St George’s success in the years prior to 1982 came at the same time as the Illawarra was considered the catchment ground for St George.

Fair to say the only time St George has ever won a title it was with Illawarra, whether that be in catchment or in name.

(And let’s be honest here, we all know the Steelers were dudded in the 1992 prelim and it should have been them taking on the broncos. And probably winning as they had the wood over them)

Only a crumulla supporter would come up with that.

There's a lot of damning stats that tell the story of this season.
Dragons had by far the worst Away record of any team (2 wins 10 losses)

If you want a sign of an uncommitted team that's got to be it.
I'm sinking the boot in until this team gets serious about being something more than just a participant.
Absolutely trash.

Yes, thank f**k it's over. I hope the reserve grade boys win their finals campaign.
I've followed my beloved Saints for well over 55 years. This year was a flog of a season. 8 closes lost, I think.

Two words to describe our season performance: Inconsistent and can't close games off.

Over the course of the season, I like many have lamented our lack of a big prop, speed, creative halves, etc.

But particularly over this last round, I've arrived at the belief that every single problem stems from this passive defensive system the club has employed for years and continues to employ now.

Opposition teams are routinely making more than 50 metres per set meaning after an attacking kick, we're starting our set on or inside our own ten. So while a big, mobile prop would be great, we spend the first three tackles of any set just trying to get to our 20 or 30 before the props even see the ball. Then we're kicking from our own 40 (at best) so they're most often to a fullback who can attack the ball and start their own set on their 40.

Then because we know we're going to be running back from our line, we need to prioritise big outside backs rather than speed. But that then means that when we do find ourselves in position - usually through an opposition error - to take an attacking kick, we bomb to the corner but with backs that aren't fast enough to get to their opposite number to put them under pressure.

So our roster might not be flush with alpha props, elite playmakers and lighning-quick backs, but whilst ever our defensive system allows the opposition to run at least 8 metres before engaging, even if we magically had guns from 1 to 17, they'd be wasted anyway and would likely regress to what we've all been sadly watching for years.

Watching Cronulla or Easts this weekend and their defense was aggressive. They met the opposition early, cut down easy metres, exerting pressure that led to mistakes, field position and points.

I loved Dean Young as a player and I believe Flanno is our best current option as coach but until the passivity of our defensive system - which is surely by design - is addressed, no roster moves big or small are going to make a difference.

You cant really attribute the 2023 season to Griffin, he was sacked after I think round 11 or 12 that year.
