Wellington 7s- what a farce

Has anyone else been watching this on TV? It's been the most ridiculous oval ball sport I have ever seen.

There is seriously at least one player being sin-binned in every game for a high tackle, and I am yet to actually see a single high tackle yet. It's 7s for God's sake, and yet there are often 2 or 3 binnings in one match.

And worst of all, I was just watching Argentina v Fiji. Argentina scored a match-winner in the last second after Fiji were penalised for a "deliberate knock-on" (which is a joke rule anyway) from a CHARGE DOWN! When the Fijian player complained that he was merely charging down a kick, the referee said "it doesn't matter". What the hell? Never in my life have I seen such bizarre officiating.

Then there was our #7 getting sinbinned (can't remember which game though!) for a "high tackle" that was actually done by our #5. I wasn't aware that the NRL were sending their refs over for a spot of pre-season training!

That send-off in the final was well deserved though, that Argentinian player took a decent chomp there ... right in front of the ref too!

You might want to check the rules before complaining. Had he not moved his arms at all it would have been a chargedown.... But as you could clearly see he did deliberately knock the ball down.

How do you charge a kick down without moving your arms?

Sorry.... I meant he moved them down not lifting them up and holding in place.

It doesn't matter, Theiiry calls the sevens a farce every year... can't remember what it was for last year tho.

Why did Argentinian player Gomez Cora who admitted that he had bitten the NZ player get a meagre 10 day ban ?
The judicial officer (Bruce Squire of NZ) found that the biting incident was not serious. What so there are degrees of bites ?.You have to have a gobful of flesh?
Absolute farcical.

Sevens as a sport is so damn sloppy and painfull to watch.
Did anybody who attended the sevens in Wellington watch any of the games? It looked like everybody was pissed and singing Cliff Richard songs.

Most fans were cheering on the minor nations . Its good to see Kenya and Niue been cheer y the crowds .
7s is the most exciting of all rugby games and thats why it should be in the Olympics .

No it f**kin isnt!
It's a bloody error fest with amatuer teams, only nz and fiji take 7's seriously and nz doesnt even release it's top 150 players.

Sorry to disagree mate it is the 15 a side game which draws the crowds at least in Oz.7s barely beats the time of day with crowds,as no one is beating down the gates to watch in any numbers.
Why arent the best rugby union players in the 7s circuit then ?

Yeah thats why South Africa , Samoa , England Argentina have all won and made the finals in the last years .
Taipan the Wellington 7s sold out in two hours and the Hong Kong 7s . I would watch 7s rugby anyday over a league or rugby test match .
People would turn out to watch test matches in league and rugby even if they played out an nil all draw .
Cricket fans flock to watch one day cricket but test matches are a joke .
7s circuits is to promote the game around the world and there's nothing wrong with that .
League 7s in Sydney was seen by others as a development step for minor nations .
But the rugby 7s circuits is a joke if your a league fan right .
At lease the IRB have a 7s circuits and I thank them for that .

I didn't know that Carl Hayman and Deacon Manu and other frontrowers were getting a look in .
The players that represent NZ in Wellington will be the top 20 7s players in NZ .
Its like the Australian cricket team . There's almost set of players for the one day and others for test matches .
Then there's those who are great at both .

:?

It was slowing the play down . Thats why he got 2 minutes.

:? :? :? :?

It wasn't slowing the play down, it was a routine run-of-the-mill chargedown that would have resulted in a try! It was a ruling that I have never seen before and am certain I will never see again.
