WELLINGTON: 15 Shannon Paku, 14 Lome Fa'atau, 13 Ma'a Nonu, 12 Tane Tu'ipulotu, 11 Roy Kinikinilau, 10 Jimmy Gopperth, 9 Piri Weepu, 8 Thomas Waldrom, 7 Ben Herring, 6 Kristian Ormsby, 5 Ross Filipo, 4 Luke Andrews, 3 Tim Fairbrother, 2 Mahonri Schwalger, 1 Joe McDonnell (captain). Reserves: 16 Luke Moheny, 17 John Schwalger, 18 Kane Thompson, 19 Justin Pirdie, 20 Riki Flutey, 21 Tamati Ellison, 22 Corey Jane.

That is a very handy looking team. Well capable of giving the Lions a good run...

Going to be a ripper of a game at the Tin.

Wilkinson to get first start

Sir Clive Woodward’s British & Irish Lions Test side to face the All Blacks is beginning to take shape after he named a powerful line-up for Wednesday’s clash with Wellington.

Jonny Wilkinson starts his first game for the Lions in New Zealand at fly-half in what is arguably the most dangerous back division Woodward has fielded on the tour so far.

“I am starting to form a Test team in my head. I think it is all coming together. I know pretty clearly now where we are heading and who the players are I need to see now,” said Woodward.

“It is a big game for a lot of players. After Wednesday I will have a very clear notion of my Test team.”

New arrivals Jason Robinson and Gareth Thomas start on the wings with Josh Lewsey, who was not at his best in Saturday's defeat to the New Zealand Maori, given an immediate opportunity to put things right from full-back.

Captain Brian O’Driscoll also plays again and is partnered in the centre by Welshman Gavin Henson, a combination considered by many to be the likely Test midfield.

In the pack, Neil Back returns from suspension to the open-side and he will need a big game at the Wespac Stadium after the Lions lost the battle at the breakdown against the Maoris.

Martin Corry starts at number eight and takes on the vice-captaincy role while Simon Easterby, who was called onto the tour as a replacement for Lawrence Dallaglio, is the blindside flanker.

Woodward said he would “not necessarily” be showing his full hand before the first Test on June 25, but there are only a few players expected to be pushing hard for a Test place not involved.

Richard Hill, Steve Thompson and Andrew Sheridan all started on Saturday, while Paul O'Connell is on the replacements’ bench along with scrum-half Chris Cusiter, versatile flanker Lewis Moody, fly-half Stephen Jones and utility back Shane Horgan.

British & Irish Lions side to face Wellington at the Westpac Stadium on Wednesday:

15 Josh LEWSEY (London Wasps, England)
14 Jason ROBINSON (Sale Sharks, England)
13 Brian O’DRISCOLL (Leinster, Ireland) CAPTAIN
12 Gavin HENSON (Ospreys, Wales)
11 Gareth THOMAS (Toulouse, Wales)
10 Jonny WILKINSON (Newcastle Falcons, England)
9 Dwyane PEEL (Llanelli, Wales)

1 Gethin JENKINS (Cardiff Blues, Wales)
2 Shayne BYRNE (Leinster, Ireland)
3 Julian WHITE (Leicester Tigers, England)
4 Danny GREWCOCK (Bath, England)
5 Ben KAY (Leicester Tigers, England)
6 Simon EASTERBY (Llanelli, Ireland)
7 Neil BACK (Leicester Tigers)
8 Martin CORRY (Leicester Tigers, England) VICE CAPTAIN

16 Gordon BULLOCH (Glasgow, Scotland)
17 Matt STEVENS (Bath, England)
18 Paul O’CONNELL (Munster, Ireland)
19 Lewis MOODY (Leicester Tigers, England)
20 Chris CUSITER (Borders, Scotland)
21 Stephen JONES (Clermont Auvergne, Wales)
22 Shane HORGAN (Leinster, Ireland)

Dreadful game to watch. I'm glad I was there rather than watch it on TV. A great atmosphere!

Too true... but F&@K me it was cold.. thought I was back on top of the old millard stand.....

One thing I have to say those bloody pommie fans are nutters.. i was cold dressed in about six layers of clothes and most of thos clowns had only jeans and a lions top on.

But all 38K+ who turned up on a night like last night should be congratulated.

Get your hand off it mate the AB's are soft and will choke as usual when it comes to the real thing, Lions will win 2-1.

Yet they still have more trophys in the cabnit than the Wannabe's.
This Lions side looks worst than the one that went to Australia in 01, for all the accolades O'Driscoll has his defence looks horribly suspect in this tour so far.

Mexted & Smith was on Sports 365 last night just after the game and went on how much O'Driscoll was respected by his team mates and media, well that's all good but it doesnt mean much if he doesnt stand out above the pack like Martin Johnson did.
Maybe Paul O'Connell should of been captain?

The Lions have not had one respectable margin yet on this Tour! The All Blacks will clean sweep them AND put 50 on them in all 3 matches if they don't start improving!

Meh, it'll be a laugh to see 'sir' Clive crying though!

yip - Paul O'Connell was the person I thought of too.

One thing is for sure, it doesn't matter who the captain is/was, he will never ne as good as Martin Johnson as a leader!

The lions that came to Australia a few years ago were twice the team of the current. They've got little strike in the backs, and it's not helping that they've yet to settle on who the starting #10 is. The backrow isn't doing enough either.

"Mate" when I think of soft the first thing to come to my mind is the Wannabe forward pack, come Tri Nations time expect Fat Dunning to sh*t his pants having to pack down with the big boys in the AB's and Boks scrum.
