I have nothing against the Bears (unlike many Manly fans), even though plenty of Bears supporters have been death-riding Manly.... OK I admit I have taken the bait from Bears supporters in anti-Manly threads (eg Doctor Death) but I really havnt got any grudge against the club.

I hope they come back as the 16th team in Gosford, it would be the logical choice for the NRL to make. And I see no reason for other clubs to be making a fuss over it.

16 teams is sustainable....so would 18 teams.

You have to remember that the 14 team vision was the vision for the elite Super League competition. Of which not all teams wanted to be part of.

Once News, Super League and ARL merged the 14 team vision would not have held up...especially when later Souths won in the courts...making no doubt...all those merged team's legens turn in their graves.

Lets face it.... had any of the merged teams had the balls to fight like Souths did we wouldn;t be having this discussion and News Ltd could go and take it up the arse....side ways.

Teams had the choice to merge or fight...... I feel sorry for all those supporters who still feel short changed about they way things ended up. I'd love nothing to see those old teams back in the comp

too many teams in Sydney as it is .... the sooner one or more goes bankrupt and dies the better for the game

Noyce is 100% justified in opposing a 16th team .... and the Tigers are probly the only one of several dud Sydney teams that has any chance of climbing out of the cellar anywhere in our future

Oink !

i think all that noyce is saying is that 'we didnt get to keep our teams, why should they get to have theirs'

Controversial statement but one that I do agree with. There has been the same teams in the cellar now for the best part of a decade. They are potentially wasting a spot of a better and more viable option. One in a better place and with access to better finances.

simple fact is - steve noyce wants to keep his job

90% of wests tigers fans are 100% behind the jv - but they are not the ones that count

the ones with the power are the small percentage of football club members - they are the ones who make the decision to vote people out or not

and a significant proportion of the balmain and wests MEMBERS are not so 100% behind the jv - most support it uneasily or are downright hostile...and this is especially true of western suburbs members where to push to stand alone is very strong, steve has a balancing act to do where he must act in the best interests of the wests tigers while at the same time not upsetting those members

In this instance the interests are the same - magpie (and balmain) diehards do and would have a reason to be upset if we end up with a 16 team comp after voting to merge on the proviso that it would be 14 teams AND although a 16th team is in the best interests of the GAME it is not in the best interests of the individual clubs

I still hope to see the central coast admitted and I've never been a fan of steve noyce but I can understand his motives in coming forward here and speaking out

I'm very interested in what the view is of the South Sydney board on expansion as they are a factor in why it will be difficult to expand with their reincarnation. And we were all told we would have 14 teams. :-k

I agree there are too many teams in Sydney but I don't want any to die or go bankrupt. I want them there, I'm happy to look after them and keep them in the NRL forever more. Talk of the Bears coming back...ok I can handle that as long as it doesn't over rule real progress in the form of the Gold Coast. But seriously, talk of bringing back Illawarra, Balmain, Wests, St George? Come on, come back to reality guys.

Why oh why can't we think BIG? Think...er national. Even interstate *hint* *hint*

I think the Bears have alot to offer the NRL but I think the GC are more vital. I want them both in.

Screw the Wests Tigers. How dare they try and stand in the way of progress. Besides don't all licenses expire in 2007? So isn't his arguement over 14 teams void?

Your a deadset scratched record aint ya......the fact is if Wests fought to stay afloat I dont think we'd be watching them today. Remember it was the third time they faced expulsion from the game...the first two they went to court and won the right to stay in the comp....maybe they thought that (with good reason) that you can only fight so much until eventually youre beaten.....JV was the way to go...while it dont suit everyone, I still have a team in the top grade to support. So dont ever say Wests didnt have the balls...they tried TWICE to kick us out.

Screw you....I think you'll find most NSW teams will have the same viewpoint as Noyce.

I can understand his viewpoint.

The NRL needs some balls imho. I'm sick and tired of them being so precious with Sydney Clubs (Even my own!). It's about time they said "Sink or Swim" and admitted all three bids. I've got no doubt all three would be a success, and would open up larger markets than most of the ones currently in possession of the Sydney Clubs.

The Criteria was BS. I liked those 'performance contract' deallies the ARL brought in. It's a shame the clubs didn't die organically but were instead culled. Alienated way too many people.

Noyce talks about history AND mentions Souths but no mention of the Bears.

Denying a 16th team is the same as denying a Central Cast Bears and therefore any chance of the Bears being represented in the NRL.

I've come too far for too long not to be considered in the same light as Souths, Wests, Balmain or any other team.

Norths or the Bears shouldn't be viewed in the same light as Souths, Wests or Balmain. Those three clubs took steps to ensure that they would be represented in the NRL and have survived in some guise.

Norths/Bears should be looked at in the same light as Newtown...a club who through it's own mismanagement went bankrupt and thereby forefeited any right or chance to play in the NRL.

You want to talk history, lets talk history....

Which club, historically speaking chose the most important year of it's history to tell North Sydney Oval to stick it's ground where the sun dont shine before having another ground to play at?

Which club, due to the above (from memory) was forced to play (I think) Manly in North Queensland before a crowd of 3 men and a dog?

Which club had it's chairman and CEO ride off into the sunset with pockets full of superannuation, cars & cash one week prior to receivers being called in?

It makes me sick to think that a club that was solely reponsible for it's own demise (didnt even get to the criteria or NRL judgement) thinks it can bleat about history and expect that gives them some right to re entry.

I can't believe that after only a small period of time people can't see the sarifices that clubs like Souths, Balmain, Wests, St George, Illawarra made to ensure their own survival, but belittle that in the naem of a club that cut it's own throat but thinks it has a right to a second chance.

^^ aye aye. Balmain and Wests made sacrifices to ensure that they will be playing in some form or another in the top grade (even though Balmain qualified to stand alone according to the 'criteria'), and Norths didn't. Honestly, I don't give a toss about Norths. Sure it would be grand to be back to the NSWRL but that's just a utopian and unrealistic vision. Bring on Gold Coast!

May I ask-How was Moving to the Central Coast not taking the game forward?

No one said it was.

Moving to the Central Coast was a great idea for the game, great idea for Norths. It should have been it's saving grace.

HOWEVER......

Moving (committing) to the Central Coast before the ground had been built was poor management. Telling your current ground landlord North Sydney Council to get stuffed when you dont have a ground to play on is abject stupidity and as it turned out, terminal.

Norths killed themselves through poor management, why do they have a right to come back...they, like the crowds on the Central Coast, have had their chance.

but look at it this way if it was gold coast coming in thered be no problem pretty much the only thing theyd need is a blessing from the broncos & theyd be in but with gosford youve got to consider 1 more team in nsw is unachievable teams are going to be going broke & now that gosford have the labor party on side the organisation responsible for trying to kill rugby league theyve got a lot of people offside
