West Tigers Salary Cap Breach

Messages

They just mentioned on TEN news that the West Tigers had not accounted for $140K in their salaries, they missed a player who had a sponsorship deal.

They've been fined $140K for the error.

Being the pedantic person I am I'll highlight that it was actually $145K. But yeh, news of this only makes me more suspicious that the Doggies aren't the only breachers (I'm not accussing all clubs guys, just that it seems to me that some others would be over as well).

Cheers all,

If you're so pedantic why didn't you mention that the Tigers breach never actualyy put them over the $3.25m??

Sorry El Duque, I don't know what I've done to offend you (I guess you hate me because I'm a Bulldogs supporter), but could you please be a little nicer. I've only come here to discuss footy like the rest of you guys (& gals) and I don't like coming here to be riled up and attacked.

Cheers all,

I'm not attacking you,you said you were pedantic yet failed to mention the whole story and even put their breach in the same category as Canterburies when it wasn't anything remotely similar.

A small excerpt from the Tigers story.

"Already today the Wests Tigers have come forward and revealed a payment was not disclosed to the NRL involving an amount of $140,000 in 2001. It is significant that this matter would not have put the Wests Tigers in breach of the Salary cap had it been disclosed. It is also important to note that had the nature of the payments been disclosed in advance, that they would not have incurred a breach."

Hardly comparable to Canterbury.

You should know that El Duque is a Parramatta supporter

Oh ok then. Well I don't really have a problem with Parramatta supporters (in fact one of my closest friends is one).

Thanks for the knowledge though. Who do you support Kaon?

Cheers all,

Hang on I have done nothing to you.

I have not attacked you or insulted you or anything.I merely just pointed out you weren't as pedantic as you claim plus mentioned some other things in other threads and none of it has been personal or insulting.

I get the impression Kaon is saying I did something to you because you're a Dogs fan and I'm an Eels fan but that is bullshit as there are a few Dogs fans on this forum and I can't recall EVER having a stoush with them because of who they support.

Loyal Bulldog,
Shock is one thing, sensitivity is another. From where I sit,El Duque was saying that if you are going to be pedantic, then get it right.
f**k me dry humour is a lost art.

All i was saying is that there will be very few Parra supporters shedding a tear for the Bulldogs especially considering the number of players the Eels have had to let go and one of them going to the Bulldogs.

For the past 5 years the Raiders look like they have been sticking to the cap but with the new management this year, our recruiting practises seem to be catching up with those from the Roosters and Broncos.

Welcome to the forums Loyal Bulldog. I can't begin to imagine how you must be feeling right about now but your clubs supporters have shown they will stick by the club and the players which is exactly what the players need to know at this time and i'm sure your team will be back with a lot more hungernext year.

For the record I am a Raiders fan and I am embarrassed by the comments our coub has been making though the week. It does nothing but motivate the Bulldogs and makes us look like chickens.

are the dragons in the poo as well ?
they seem to have let go a lot of names (arse covering exercise ?) and are not buying to replace.
also,, there are whispers over at the "dark side"that there could be ructions involving the drags spending a bit too much this and last season.
will it never end ??

The author of the article is fast getting a reputation for trying to stir things up. Unfortunately, by seeking controversy,he sometimes fogets to tell the whole story.

I think its worth pointing out that the Dragons have been shedding players for the last two seasons after previously having a huge cap - the Joint Venture rules allowed for this. But it had a sunshine clause and time has run out. By 2003, they must adhere to the $3.25MIL cap.

They have to let go of two morefirst grade players to make the cut, namely Hookey and Roberts. The alternative is that the players will have to accept a new smaller deal.
The club and the players are trying to sort it out. But Hookey wants to play centrewhere Gasnier and Timmins are and Roberts has some competition from lower grade fullback Reece Simmonds for his spot, it wouldn't surprise me to see both of them go rather than accept a pay cut.

The FACT is, Saints have a clear conscience.
Unfortunately, the price for this has been a culling of players at the club like I've never seen before.

G'day Loyal Bulldog, welcome to the forum... be forewarned, it doesn't pay to be too oversensitive in these parts, we're prone to picking each others arguments apart and giving each other a serve! El D wasn't having a personal dig at you, he was just pointing out an omission in your claimed pedantry in his usual blunt as f**k style....
IMHO thats the best thing about this forum though, we're not afraid to give it to each other a bit without it degenerating into the sort of pathetic juvenile slanging match that so often develops on the WORL Grandstand or elsewhere.
