He lost a fight via knockout early in his career in the UFC but that can happen to anyone.

The thing is Jack beat Belal who is also a great grappler. I have heard Belal talking though and he said that Khabib would beat him up and toy with him but Islam was nice about it. The point to me being that he was nowhere near6 those guys level when he trained with them and he was up a weight class.

I think the main point is these guys are so well rounded and train so hard they are going to be hard do beat.
Exackery. We not renown ( reknown?) for being a wrestling nation hey, unless of course you can somehow rewind the clock and come out of retirement Tiger.
Islam will keep winning and be undefeated with 4 belts and end up a 265 pound Heavyweight 😂.
In boxing you can weigh in under weight but it's usual closer to the limit for power.
Because wrestling often uses speed and agility in take downs, do you think their should be an under limit. I guess in UFC there would be a trade off for speed/agilty v power strength.
Probably a dumb question.

They have weight classes in all combat sports for a reason. The bigger man beats the smaller man basically all the time if the skill level is close.

I mentioned the Craig Jones international when it was on not long ago. It was a team based event and sometimes you saw little grapplers up against big grapplers. It was hilarious watching the bigger men just bully the little guys. They just club them with their hands.

Marcelo Garcia was one of the greatest jiu-jitsu guys ever. He was 75 kg and had some big wins against bigger guys but he never actually one an open weight tournament.

Yes, a good bigger man usually beats a good smaller man I was just about to delete my post after I went to the toilet but you beat me 😂
Just going back to leg/calf kicks, another reason I raised that point is if your a good boxer and for an orthodox to be constantly kicked on the left leg must make it really hard or do you think it was more to gauge distance and control

Islam is a likable guy. I didn't pick up on this but he said he was going to leg kick him and when he switched stance he would shoot.

I tell you something interesting. If you are a grappler you tend to stand with your dominant leg forward. So right handed right leg forward. If you are a striker it's the other way around.

I'm interested in how fighters manage this but I don't really know.

I honestly hadn't seen that vid, there you go 👍
Orth alway on left foot, lead with your left glove. The point is if your left leg is kicked several times and injured it makes this harder. It could be why in UFC that you see a fighter change up to southpaw......unsure
Islam is smart as well as talented. I think Islam was not only feeling the range and timing early in case he had to revert but hurting that left leg.
It's interesting how you said grappling is dominant right foot fwd. But in boxing your dominant foot is always the left foot. (Orthodox)

It's interesting right. There is grappling coach and I heard him talk and he stated the no 1 thing he changes is to get right handed people to grapple right leg forward.

Absolutely. They want your non dominant leg forward, less strength to defend take down I guess, I'm not a wrestler 😂
I guess when your job is to coach you have to be observant and see how your opposition reacts under certain conditions. Benji take note!
I just looked at some footage and Jack did mix it up and I'd say his camp wouldn't have him stand with his legs so far apart next time. Comparing both mens stances , Islam was more upright and I think Jacks wider stance was to avoid the takedown.
Islam could afford to do this as he is stronger, quicker, and got into Jacks head before it even started. Jacks front foot was there to be kicked.
I see it like a street fight, the more your intimidated the less of a stand up stance you'll have.....is this making sense?

My daughter has a young high school child and she says making social media for children over 16 will be hard to police when other kids in high-school have access and others don't.
She told me things about social media that I must admit, took for granted. Like bullying and sexting and sexual pressure.
Also it's like a gang thing too, and not restricted to guys.
She said it should be available at 18, voting age. However, I've read that this is being challenged to become 16 yrs of age as well.
The way I see it, alcohol, and voting is 18, dying for your country in war is 18 but if under, at a min of 17 and you need parents permission.
You can gamble, obtain Recreational Pilot License at 16, Commercial Pilot License at 18 and you can adopt a child at 21.
Are ages determined by necessity? Or is it political presure placed on voters by pollies or vise versa. Is it formuated fro thorough reseach data?
My brother-in-law who worked 24 years as roadside assistance said the majority of driving accidents involving high speed, which resulted in deaths were extremely high with P platers and often had factors like wet slippery roads or other challenging road conditions.......Inexperience????
Maybe we should just have an 'adult age' which comes from experience living as an adult and make that an age for every adult licence requirement etc.
I'm fence sitting on what should happen but the social media thing will have teething probs for sure.

This is going to turn out to be the biggest waste of money since........well, the last govt waste of money.

Everyone who has ever tried a form of censorship or prohibition have discovered that it doesnt work and just drives it underground.

2 things will happen with the social media ban. The kids will find a way around it using a VPN or something similar. The other way is that other sites will be used, either existing or as start ups. This is a danger as you won't know who is behind then as easily, and there could be criminals behind them.

All the things you mentioned above except sexting have been around forever in one form or another. Even when I was a kid there were class mates who had polaroid photos of their girlfriend.

Kids have to find a way to deal with.problems as they grow up. It's a part of life. If anyone thinks they can end bullying, or kids getting depressed and hurting themselves is living in a fantasy land.

I don't really think it's about the kids, from what I understand, we will also have to prove who we are and that we are over 16, once that happens, they have our digital profile that will be used for everything and anything they can think of.
It's already happening in China and it's f**king scary, what they do to them.
I will not be complying.

Definitely. The scariest thing over there that people are given citizen scores based on their interaction on weibo (Chinese facebook) if you're not a good little citizen and post plenty of positive posts you'd in danger of being taken away for some re-educating. If you dared to share any negative feelings towards the govt. I dare say you'd be like the bloke who stwpped in front of the tank in Tiananmen Square.

Having said that, we've all clicked on the T&C with either Google, Apple, or many others. It's impossible to use a phone or computer without doing it.

Unfortunately, privacy is a thing of the past.

Sexting, it happens and can ruin lives.
You are agreein with me in a way when you say you won't control it because of VPN or older kids will have them in the same environment. That is double std imo.
Schools should just ban the bloody things. Hand them into the office and pick them up after school...your there to learn, not check your social media accounts.
Teach the kids to communicate without the crap.

I understand that already happens in NSW, not sure about the rest of country.

IMO, the parents should be in control of their kids, not the government.
Both parents work and school is an important part of society.
Parents also are losing a battle to control such things, especially when they are not with their children for a huge chunk of the day. They rely on school to have good role models because such a term is deteriorating in society I'm afraid.
We can't let values deterioate.
Remember, we didn't have this crap when we were kids, socializing was face to face and usually mum was at home.

In essence, restricting social media to over-16s will work to a degree because it protects the most vulnerable age group, reduces online harm even with partial compliance, gives parents a clear rule, and forces platforms to properly verify ages.
Of course it will have many downsides as DOM has pointed out, but by setting a hard and fast rule, kids can't come home and say "everyone else is doing it". Even if it's true, that can be addressed and explained.
Kids can still use the computer at home to carry out school assignments and hobbies etc. It's not the end of the world for them.
They can still phone their friends.
My daughter gave her son a mobile phone for safety reasons but this is not the issue.

Ever heard of the latch key kids?
Both my parents worked, we did okay.
Parents still need to be parents, not rely on the government, yes it tough but we survived

Sorry mate, how old are you? Social media wasn't around when you were 14. The analogy of front door key around yhe neck applied back in those days too but a larger number of mothers were listed on census as being a housewife as an occupation.
I walked 3km through remote outback scrub to get to school and I survived, but that's not the issue again.
You survived because of the way we communicated, face to face. Kids imo are mollycoddled somewhat these days and the way we live now is partly responsible for that.
Children and young adults are killing themselves these days because imo they are confused on how to act, how to react, when to act and when not to and who are the role models.

Anyway .. the ban isnt about ppl under 16 using social media platforms , its 100% about control and ultimately to know every name behind every post online.
If your a parent there are a million options to monitor and moderate their online experience. Let parents be parents and not allow even more government overeach into our lives.

We survived because our parents taught us how to, not the government.
I went to school on my own, in the early 60's, with respect, where did you pluck the census info from?
All I know is, my mother worked when I went to school.
Parents need to take responsibility and don't let the government tell them how to raise their children, which is what the digital ID is really all about.

But you are missing my point about this, WE will have to also prove we are over 16 and once they have that information, the rest doesn't really matter.
If you are unsure, read up on what happens when you U walk in China? BTW, Albo has been to China and said he signed a deal with the same people who enforce their draconian rule now.
It's all coming next month.
