I am sooooooo glad that I made the trip down to Canberra to watch our mighty mighty Panthers take on the Raiders.
Needless to say it was one fantastic trip, and there may only have been about 30 or so Panther fans sitting together, but I think we managed to make ourselves sound like about 2,000.
We had a great drive down with Cat, Cathy, Mick and I in one car, and Rhino, Mrs Rhino and Baby Rhino in the other. We had a lot of laughs and loud singing to music as the excitement built up the closer we got to Canberra.
We made it into the stadium just before the finish of the Jersey Flagg match, so we were able to watch Premier League and 1st grade in full.
There was hardly any crowd there at all until right before the 1st grade match started, which we thought was pretty bad considering they are supposed to believe that their team has a shot at winning the comp and they were playing the defending Premiers. And lets not forget that they are the defending Premiers in Premier League too.
We were ecstatic to be able to watch our mighty mighty Panthers win in all 3 grades, and the most satisfying thing was that in the end, they were ALL very convincing wins. No close scores, and if there were any dodgy ref calls, they went against us, not for us.
The guys came towards our end after the match to thank us for our suppport which was cool, and we waited around after the match to say congrats to the guys when they came out.
I asked Joe if he could hear us cheering for them, and he said "Yep, we sure could". So our majorly sore throats today and lack of voice was all worth it.
The trip home in the car was a noisy, happy affair, with us all singing really loudly to some very loud music. And a lot of time spent recounting the match. Talking about our disgust in a lot of the refereeing decisions (what's new? lol), and going over the fantastic comeback by the guys in the last 20 minutes.
We then stopped at Marulan to have something to eat, and got an unexpected bonus. We saw Luke Rooney, and I think he was with his parents, and we also saw Matty Johns, Andrew Voss and the stage manager of the Footy Show (his name is Tony something -- ex footy player). I had a little chat with Andrew Voss while we were all in the queue waiting to order our food, and he's a very friendly guy, especially considering he looked absolutely buggered.
Cat dropped me off at my place at about 2 am this morning, and I went to bed one VERY happy and content Panther fan.
