but reefy, if Vagana played how he used to at the doggies, would you have forked out 330K for him?

i thought he was what our backline needed. but he hasn't performed

Its a hard question nuffs.
If you want to make money on the stock exchange would you invest in blah blah?
its a risk.
There are a few benefits of signing an established star like Vagana to his last contract.
the main one being to attract other players. Safety in numbers.
Over the last 5 seasons I have season many established stars signed for big Dollars.
How many of those have performed to their pay packet?
I would say about 4
Kennedy
Fletcher
Sing
Kimmorley

On the flip side look at the signings of developing players like Finch, Roberts, orford, cayless etc

I would say, from a safe seat, that the best way to buy is how Sludge does. Stay away from the top end if it is final contract. Pay big money for younger players with 2 or 3 contracts left.
e.g. Pritchard, Monaghan, should have been offered the world.

fair enough

and you say sludge stays away from the older players. he, like many people, thought that Vagana would provide the spark in the backline that we lacked last year. so he bought an established "top-line" first grader

unfortuantely he has been wrong so far

Surely

or Frawley, I think Canberra had a win there, he is a very good player, can't understand why we never pursued this guy.

Because their names go like this
Of course its an exaggeration, Kimmorley can kick. But he is average at best & he over utilises it.

& 2 callers I rate are Peter Sterling & Greg Alexander & they are often critical of his kicking game.
Laurie blows with the wind a bit.

Reefy, obviously you don't rate Kimmorley and his kicking game so i was just wondering who you thought were the top 5 kickers running around in the nrl at the moment?

he's answered this before

Johns
Lockyer
Finch
Smith
Roberts
maybe Fittler in there

i think they were them. not in any order

i think Kimmorley isn't the best kicker in the comp, but he's far from the worse

better brain than boot, but that ain't all bad and certainly good enough for mine. best kicker we've got / had for a while. (no, NOT goalkicker  )

but i've seen a fair few tries scored AGAINST him from his kicks
eg blacklock '99 GF, geyer round 1 2003
