What do the Gold Coast bring?

Gold Coast bring a pedigree of schoolboy talent. Should be a development club as they represent a huge area but have lost their way.
'Was listening to Chiming in podcast, and they said the 4 privately owned clubs, 2 are well run, and the other 2 have gaps all over the place. I'd say GC is one of the two with loads of gaps in support staff and programs. So that's what they need to address over just saving a few bucks. Invest into the club and take the hit for a few years, which will pay off in the long run. I'm guessing the other club is Manly they were refering to.

And if player agents know this stuff, I'm sure they are advising there clients, which then limits who will go to the club unless they are getting overs. Bit of a self fullfilling prophecy. The coach and club certainly have there work cut out for them to fix those perceptions.

Keebra and pb Currumbin been winning or coming top of the national schoolboys comp for a while

Either titans don’t focus on getting them to fg or the juniors don’t see titans as a good destination

It's not so much that. Most of the players in those teams are already locked up in deals with NRL clubs. Like the Bulldogs have David Breyton (It says Broncos in the article, but he signed with the Bulldogs, might be a player in his way at the Broncos).

What kills them, is that they really struggle to get players from juniors into QLD cup and develop them into good first graders. They all seem to appear in first grade with serious flaws in there games. So there are huge gaps in how they develop players. It's a big thing to fix, but firstly work out what is actually missing for the program to end up like that.

I do think they were on the right path for there club, by tryign to focus on just getting one QLD cup side to take the majority of there players. That might help them. I get it works for the Broncos spreading players across 3 clubs, but it doesn't mean its the right model for the Titans.

It’s an nrl club problem with most clubs not focusing on juniors

Hopefully Penriths dominance will change that

Even the storm appear to be going down the pathway

Titans will sort it out eventually it’s a rugby league heartland

Jarryd Hayne should get a mention for absolutely ruining the club they were going good under Henry

They weren’t going great Henry their 2016 finals game was just because of Parra getting points stripped. They had no winning records under him

They're a pretty decent retirement village, with good coke connections.

GC is a wasteland for sporting teams otherwise

I think that's the other thing. All recruitment needs to be around getting family men rather than anyone who will come there. Ones that will bunker down and fit in with the other side of the Gold Coast that is families. That part of the Gold Coast exists as well.

Like I know Max King is a Bulldogs player, but he is the sort of guy they should be targetting who won't get up to crap off the field. And find more like that to turn the culture of the club and have those sorts of players at their core.

It’s got a huge population of young families and the city has one of the fastest growing populations in Australia

It’s Australia’s sixth largest city and the afl has been creaming their pants to take over

AFL is bleeding money in Western Sydney and the Gold Coast. It's all long term, but too many of there clubs are money pits. It's one thing NRL does well, we can run clubs off the sweat of an oily rag (Yeah looking at you Sharks) if needed and with funding of 130% of the salary cap, it would take somethign very stupid for a club to go to the wall and need a cash injection like a lot of AFL clubs get in there profit redistrubution scheme to bail out failing clubs who should be doing better.

Once the NRL gets partity in broadcast rights, we should steam ahead past the AFL as there clubs cost a load more to run with larger lists.

Yeh but there’s a lot of league fans who think the titans are a waste of time and should be relocated

Some journos and pundits too

Just hand over the keys to the city to the fumblers

Thing is, even if the Gold Coast never amounts to much as a club, both AFL and NRL. Both are for the game, there to allow supporters of other teams to fly to the Gold Coast and support there clubs while on a holiday. That is good for the game in itself. Personally I'd prefer they get there act together for a few years as there is so much untapped potential. Just need a solid core and to be competive for say 7-10 years which would get them heaps of bandwagon fans and hopefully enough that when success moves on, enough are rusted on. Gold Coast just hasn't had that period since there first couple of seasons when they were brought back in to the league.

The big problem the Gold Coast will always have is that a good chunk of the people who live there are from elsewhere and already have their teams. I’ve got friends on the Gold Coast who are from Sydney and are die hard Eels supporters. Another is from Melbourne who goes for the Storm and Collingwood. My depot is on the Gold Coast. Most of the cars have silver ferns/polynesian symbols on them or they are ex Sydney or Melbourne people.

I‘ve been to a couple of Titans games in the last year. It felt like more the half the crowd were in the visiting side.

That’s the same from anywhere they’ve added a club to before in nsw or qld

Eg Penrith Cronulla Brisbane

Once they have decent success the new generation get on board

And the titans averaged close to 20k in the first few years (too lazy to google) when they were good

Since then they went broke and their owner was hated by half the tradies on the Gold Coast, team has been crap, and afl throwing the kitchen sink at the suns

And their crowd average has been mostly good

Suns used to receive close to double the funding the titans do

Plus they have a much better stadium deal where they own the management rights to the stadium

They bring a good opportunity for the other clubs to avoid the spoon… particularly now the Tigers have got off the bottom

see mate … most people aren’t fighting this NRL v AFL v Union war that you and maybe even I am…

a lot of NRL fans wouldn’t care if the GC Suns get 5k bigger crowds

If people don’t care about league doing well in the Gold Coast … which is fine … don’t bother saying how bad the club are and should be relocated

Afl fans think their club on Gold Coast is killing it and they are the biggest sport there

let’s call a spade a spade though ..: the Titans history is terrible … I feel sorry for their fans actually … they deserve better .. the team underachieved this year big time
