Man, what the bloody hell do people have against the GC??
I really don't understand the hate.

On every single metric they're in the top half of the comp easy.

Imagine the hate when they start winning!!

I think that's the other thing. All recruitment needs to be around getting family men rather than anyone who will come there. Ones that will bunker down and fit in with the other side of the Gold Coast that is families. That part of the Gold Coast exists as well.

Like I know Max King is a Bulldogs player, but he is the sort of guy they should be targetting who won't get up to crap off the field. And find more like that to turn the culture of the club and have those sorts of players at their core.
Sounds good in theory and I agree it would add more stability to the club. Problem is it is more difficult to uproot a player and their family who have their network around them and move to another city. Much easier for a young single guy with the add benefit of what the GC brings. It would be interesting to see what making the semis for a couple of consecutive years does for the club in terms of recruitment and spectator numbers.

Have always told my wife if we didn't have our family structure in Sydney we would be living on the GC and she agrees.

What do you mean ? Crowds … success? Something else ? You live there right?
AFL beat the NFL for crowds, that doesn't mean anything. They're running 4th after being artificialy propped up by draft pick by the AFL.
I went to a game this year, the massive 15k fans were mostly opposition supporters due to the Victorian ex pay community, that was in a hard to get to second rate facility.

The AFL propaganda machine in full swing.

GC is Rugby league territory.

If the Titans ever consistently make finals they will average 20K plus easy. I mean they ran dead last this year and still got better crowds than the Suns.

Gold Coast will always be a Rugby League city and it's not even close.

So how should we compare if not crowds or on field success?

You went to a Suns game ?

Haha

Titans have better crowds and have had more success than the Suns.

The Suns came Week 2 of the finals this year …and the Titans haven’t finished that high since 2009… the crowds have a bees dick of difference

Believe me ..I’m not an AFL fan …but let’s not pretend the Titans are winning the battle

GC should be THE fancy schmancy Club in the NRL. What else would a young 20 year old kid want?

Yet it remains a trophy basket case? Why? I just don’t have any answers. Should be top 4 every year…

We don't need to compare.
but we were too , as a gauge:

We know that NRL is the most watched sport by ratings but for the sake of making things easier we can say they're even across the country.

However the AFL attendance is amazing as the nature of the sport is best in person , better crowds than even the NFL.

On the equal footing to RL, attendance is around double that of RL across the nation on average.
So if AFL was as big as NRL on the gold Coast it would need to be double.
Titans 15k will show 30k AFL in attendance on an equal support with all things equal but they're not.
The Suns are going great and in Honeymoon faze, so we'd have to go to when the Titans were going good in the Honeymoon faze.. they were more around 20k average.
So if the Suns were as popular as the Titans, you'd expect to see around 40k average and they're about a 3rd of that.

The Gold Coast I have at about a 70% NRL 30% follow AFL.

That doesn't account for the amount of expat Kiwis and Islanders on the GC. If you could get Television ratings for the GC, I'd bet my last dollar that the Warriors get better ratings than the Suns and so will Tonga v Samoa.

It's no contest.

AFL crowds give a false sense of popularity.

Personally …I hate the argument that the AFL is a better game to watch at the ground than RL

That was the first time the Suns have made finals so no to more on field success. Crowds for Titans have been better over both clubs’ histories so no to that too.

Not saying it’s a landslide by any means but Titans aren’t losing the battle.
