What do the Warriors do?

Bring back Stacey Jones, and maybe Ali Lauti'iti, Steve Price and Rubén Wiki too. Heck even bring back Ivan to captain/coach. Now that would be something.

Wrap it up and start again. Melbourne set a great culture and win in their 2nd year, Broncos, Roosters are constantly up there. TBH I couldn't give a shit if we rorted the cap like the Roosters do, I want my premiership DAMN IT!

You're not going to like my answer but it needs to be said...pick players from outside AK, more Maori players (think the Storm), and look further South for developing spine players (and north of AK). The reliance on big barnstorming PI guys is overdone & has been for years...I'm a Kiwi (not from AK) and like a lot of other Kiwis would be fans of the Warriors if it wasn't so AK-centric. I cringe at the 'NZ' Warriors tag because the team doesn't represent the whole of the country (even though its our only NRL team atm).
The greatest strength of the Warriors is its greatest weakness imo...the PI guys are awesome but they are over-utilised and fill most positions...gotta feel for them when they could be the ultimate weapon instead of the weakest link.
Re Maori players...the Bromwich brothers are from Papakura ffs, how did they get away? Tohu Harris was spotted at a tournament at HopaHopa when he was 14 but they didn't pursue anything to get him to AK. As for the spine players...the developing player at the Storm in line for the hooker role (although plagued by injury atm) is Slade griffin from CHCH - both CB & Smith have identified him & he was promoted to 1st grade to be ready when the time comes. The Warriors need to take a leaf out of every other NRL club's books and look outside of their restricted little circle of thinking.
Hoffman & what he brings across the club was a step in the right direction, RTS as well, specially as he is a Kiwi. Lots more thoughts & expect to get shot down...but you did ask the question

Think it has more to do with the coaching and development of our juniors. Would our club been able to turn Tohu Harris, Kevin Proctor, Jesse Bromwich into the players they are now or does Bellamy have a lot to do with it?

FTP Johnson for a few weeks IMO need to think long term.

Make Hoffman capt and play a few more tradesman in the back line f**k all this flash Harry shit, get in the arm wrestle and play tough with character

Finally get a decent and proven coach

Agree...U20s do well because of the big PI guys over-running everyone but that doesn't translate into FG so well (or at all really). The answer ids in recruitment & development of Juniors. I think there's good personnel in JD but perhaps what is needed is someone with a mind-set that winning U20s is not enough & development should always translate to what is needed in FG. Don't think that's happening as well as it could be atm...just needs a slight change in objectives & a person running JD that that looks long term - I think Warriors are just a person away from achieving that.

Those 3 at the Storm have talent & work ethic that would've come through anyway but perhaps wouldn't have been fully maximised like CB can do - the fact is though that Storm have always looked a few years ahead (no matter what other arguments people put up about the way they do things) and they have always had an eye for potential - must be a pre-requisite for their recruitment officers I reckon.

Hoffy is there because of your current coach. What I think is happening is a resistance from some to change for what he is trying to instil in the Warriors culture and team make-up. I really believe you guys are just a couple of changes away (and possibly one more year) from reaching the golden grail...
When clubs go through changes (which needs to happen here) there is always change, resistance, then re-building, then success. It is how accepting of change that determines how long that will take.
The Warriors and fans have always poo-pooed the wrestle, the grind etc but its proven by the perennial finalists and winners what is needed to succeed. The 'that's not how we play' crap is tired and needs to change - across the organisation & teams

lack of urgency is a mental thing! not good this early in the season,,

Or lack of interest. They didn't seem keen to do the job today, maybe too much Anzac Day hype.

Also, Chad's hair-do has gotten much worse, l didn't think that was possible?

Basically what people are wanting is the best years in the Cleary era. Basic no frills league, high completion, no errors, good D ( always remember that epic Penrith away game when we kept them scoreless ), kick to manu when nothing else on. Not that exciting but was effective on the whole. For some reason Cleary couldn't build on a good year in the following season.
Kind of wonder what might have been had we not botched up his re signing and lost John Hart as a result. Then lose a good player like Taylor.
And 2007 could have been our year as we had the right blend there but f**ked it up in that home semi which sent us to the cowboys. And that Mckinnon ACL injury also meant we lost that x factor you need.

Our areas of concern:

1. Last tackle options. Our structure in setting up for final tackle plays is pathetic, and our coach is a former halfback - and our NSW Cup coach is too. We'd have to be last in the NRL for repeat sets by a long stretch wouldn't we? Our bombs aren't much better, and there's never any thought of doing anything else. Friend also cocked up the last play by going left, then we bomb to Wright?? Give me a spell.
2. SJ is being used poorly. He can cop some of the blame but we have a halfback who killed it in the 4N not being utilised. He's also reticent to go to the line, other than the Thompson try which took 70 minutes. He misses Tomkins badly but needs to grab the ball, take control and own whether we get 2 points or not
3. Edge defence. But that's no surprise, it's killed us forever. At the moment, Simon would be better going out to centre again because he's doing FA in the middle.
4. Jono Wright. Honestly, stop praising this spud. He had two unmemorable games where he did nothing, hence nothing wrong, and today was absolutely awful. Way out of position for Don's first try, then gave Don the outside and ran like a three-legged donkey in pursuit. Oh yeah, then he coughed up the ball late in the game when we needed to go the length.
5. Completions. Our side should be given Dragons DVDs and made to watch them until their eyes bleed. They're not a superstar side, but they treasure the footy, stick to a defensive structure and score enough to have more than the opposition.

I'm sure there's shitloads more. Our coach needs to lift, there's not a lot to like about our patterns and how we're playing. It's not like we're getting smashed up front.

The Kata experiment hasn't worked either. I wouldn't be rushing Hurrell back based on today, however. If that means Lolohea plays centre, so be it.

Drop Wright and Kata, hopefully Tomkins is fit next round and bring back Fish/debut Maumalo.

On the plus side, Sammy Raps really aimed up this week. And Matulino is a continued beast.

our combonations are not working

SJ and tui is not working, theres always a pass around the back to tui that he has to stop for and that shuts down the play

no one runs off matulino who in my opinion is just a tad behind bromwich as the best prop this year

can someone explain bodenes role in the team. he is non effective on the right side and has no real combonation with anyone. hes like a fish out of a water out there

johno wright can hold hands with dean bell and piss off to

Two losses coming up in the next two rounds and we'll be looking good for a shot at the spoon. Unfortunately we're not playing Manly in round 26. Could have been an epic battle for the spoon with Matai scoring the winning try in the 79th minute (or Ballin darting out of dummy half on half way and going 50 metres - something soul crushing like that).

Even though the ladder is gridlocked, based on our on-field attitude we're not going to make the eight.

Probably will be the same story as the last two seasons: origin will kick in and hurt teams, we'll go on a golden run and tease the top eight, then every team will find another gear and leave us for dead.

Manly are too good on paper to get the spoon, but we'll probably do just enough to avoid it.
Bottom four imo.
