We already have a supercoach in Mary, I bagged him I wanted him gone but if he keeps doing what he is doing he can stay forever.
You know if he goes well the players will get the credit but if they fail Doust, Mary and Millward will get booed.

Mary has done well so far this season. Hope it continues. Having an Ex St George Illawarra Captain who was unfortunate not to win a grand final in 1999 win a comp 20 years later as a coach is a really good story. I feel for all those blokes that day in 1999 except for Mundine who wanted to be a hero.

Suggestions?
But they need to be experienced AND GOOD.
Not just experienced.

Experience can equal shite.
Bellamy is off contract - top of the pile.
Toovey is underrated
2 that come to mind that may be available.
But would have no problem with JD
These suggestions are made with winning the comp in mind - not just making the 8

What do you think they would do differently with our current squad?

Upgrading Hunt for Mcrone has made a massive difference. That has in turn helped Widdop's game improve, although, Widdop was in great form at the beginning of last year.

The addition of Graham has helped. We were going very well last year with Packer, until he got injured.

Simms has proven to be an upgrade on Thompson.

Dufty has added another dimension to our attack and provides X factor at the back.

No one looks to be selfish either now.

Off course, we all agree with the above, however we were quick to blame Mary when things turn to shit, i for eg will be just as quick to commend him when things are rocking and rolling along, some are still looking to scalp him for some reason, each to their own.

Loaded question but the simple answer is that each one of these coaches are better qualified and more likely to win a comp than McGregor.
They all have their different philosophies and given a roster as we have now, they could plan an assault on the finals that would give us a good chance of winning the comp.
Love the 6-0 but still cannot erase the previous years' capitulations out of my mind.

I think Mary is getting massive accolades right now - most people are praising him.
You shouldn't feel sorry for an NRL coach - criticism comes with the territory.
Unfortunately, McGregor has given us plenty to criticize in the past.

Yes sorry, was a loaded question.
Agree, we can’t put the last few years behind us yet.
Just wondering when people talk about a better coach, what would that coach have done differently this year with our current squad?

Just checked updated winning percentages for coaches.

MARY 50%
46 WINS. 46 LOSSES

NEIL HENRY 44%

TOOVEY 26%
2017 UK SEASON
PREVIOUSLY 54% WITH MANLY
Crashed badly in UK

Jason Demetriou 71% inc UK coaching, Northern Pride and Illawarra Cutters.

Everyone has their ups and downs, but Neil Henry probably had to go from the Titans afterall, 44% is a pretty poor result over several years at Titans and Cowboys

I suppose what doesn't show up in win/loss stats are the games that are crucial/important/season defining.
A little subjective I know but that is where McGregor's stats are unflattering.

These are the win lose stats for Jack Gibson, who was widely considered the best rugby league coach in history.

67 - 68 Easts 59%
70 - 71 St George 67%
73 Newtown 62%
74 - 76 Easts 77%
78 - 79 Souths 48%
81 - 83 Parramatta 73%
85 - 87 Cronulla 43%

Overall those are very impressive stats. When he coached Souths and Cronulla, his stats weren't that impressive, but in between those clubs was Parra with the impressive stats of 73%. The Easts side of 74 to 76 was a glamour team, but was before my time. I don't think he went from being a good coach, to a bad coach, to a good coach and then to a bad coach. I am not saying that a coach is irrelevant, but the cattle he had made a massive difference.
