What has the NRL ever done for rugby league development?

I hear this alot in so many threads. I'm wondering what all those that repeat that mantra have done themselves.

Play or played the game? Coach, manage a team? Involved with their local club? Drive their kids all over the place to train and play RUGBY LEAGUE (not soccer or some other footy code)? Referee matches? Or just post on internet forums complaining about the NRL and rugby league development?

Now I believe alls fair in love and war when it comes to rugby league discussion but what do we do for the game ourselves?

In this day and age we are a customer of a business. It would be like asking what have you done for Woolworth's just because you choose to shop there instead of Coles!

IIRC correctly the NRL has nothing to do with development. The ARL does.
But anyway, I'm not sure if I can afford the indemnity insurance to do anything involving footballs anymore.

Given them your money in exchange for goods would be the answer. But in regards to junior sport, the only people seeing it as a business should be the NRL and the few who run each club and are in charge of ensuring it survives. How should a parent see it as a business? That's garbage. Volunteering parents are the lifeblood of junior clubs. So Pig makes a good point. We bleat about the ARL/NRL not doing enough for grassroots, but is it all talk no action? Personally I'm planning to coach a young side as soon as I can, at the moment I'd rather be playing myself and it would be too time consuming to coach as well. But in a few years I reckon I'll give it a shot.

ARL Development is funded 50% directly by the NRL and 50% by the Australian Rugby League which draws the majority of its revenue from the NRL anyway, so whilst the NRL doesn't walk around with its own Development officers, it does put in to help fund the Development Officers of the game.

As of this year I am going to be an assistant coach to a team and next year head coach.

Its the ARL that needs to develop the game, im certain that if they had more money, the current system in place would work, but the system right now for the money the Development are getting is not good enough.

Apparently there is a $8 million budget for Rugby League junior development nationally while the AFL have an $18 million budget for AFL in Sydney alone.

I heard that from someone heavily involved in grass-roots rugby league where afl is becoming a big problem.
