People thinking that Hayne playing Parra will draw a crowd don't know us very well. We don't care any more. Sure, a lot of fans are still sore on him, but fans won't turn up for it.

The best and only way for us to pull in bigger crowds is with good form. The better we play, the more wins, the bigger crowds.

Sharks vs Raiders/Storm/Dragons at Shark Park.

It should be a rule that the Premiers get to play their first game at home. Absolutely baffled we weren't able to do so in Round 1 2015, it should be a small reward for the title holders.

round 1 2014 you hosted premiers Easts. So if Roosters didn't get the home game first up when they were premiers, why would you be baffled that you didn't either?

Gonna go out on a limb here and suggest Dogs v Eels will never be played in a Fox-only timeslot while Ch 9 have a say in anything.

Saturday 6pm game (I'm assuming this is NSW time) is 5pm in Qld and that'd be f**king hot in NQ, may need to swap with the 8pm game but even at 7pm it'd be 32C.

Perhaps we should skip home games for NQ in March due to heat and the wet season

Yeah my bad I meant

Saturday 3:30pm -- Storm vs Tigers -- I think the 1 v 16 with the Knights would be a thumping
Saturday 6:00pm -- Eels vs Titans - the hayne game
Saturday 8:00pm (7:00pm local) -- Cowboys vs Sea Eagles --- I don't think it could be later than 7:30 local

If I recall the Cowboys want to limit the amount of home games in the first few rounds but they don't want to face a scenario where they're 4-6 weeks on the road as it can hurt their performance.

I think it's reasonable if it's Week 1 Home (if they've got a home game in first 4 weeks it should be round 1 to capitalise on crowds), Weeks 2, 3 & 4 away, Week 5 Home

Should traditional rivalry matches be played in Round 1?

I've always considered it a waste to be honest - you're using up games early that could boost mid-season attendances during rivalry rounds etc. To me Round 1 should be about getting fans of the previous year's Top 8 etc through the gates based on that previous performance and future expectations -- because by Round 8 what happened last year becomes meaningless.

They should also consider the grand final rematches for Round 2 (hosted in Melbourne) and Round 8 (hosted in Cronulla) -- to capitalise on the interest while it's still hot.

Early season Cowboys home games (in recent years) have actually had 8:30pm local (9:30pm AEDT) kickoffs, on the basis it's cooled down enough and allows Sydney-based games to start later, effectively moving us from the usual 3 / 5:30 / 7:30 AEST model to a 5:30 / 7:30 / 9:30 AEDT model for a couple of the opening rounds.

Not sure how attendances fared off the top of my head but I think it's a fine idea.

I'm not a fan of any teams having played return clashes inside the first half of the season where avoidable.

Dogs v Eels twice before May was ridiculous this season.

Yeah the idea makes sense but like you said it's about how it affects attendance - they normally try to avoid 8:30pm kickoffs because of how it affects family attendance -- but also the viewing audience as anything after 10pm falls off a cliff.

There's a difference though - Dogs vs Eels weren't the grand finalists. If you look back at previous seasons where the second grand final replay is late in the season, unless both teams are in the top 5 or 6 on the ladder the interest is usually lost by then.

If Origin weren't a factor you'd put it around Round 10-15 but you don't want those matches to overshadow the replay either, so it kind of has to be within those first 10 rounds if you want the second match to still attract attention.

So Sharks vs Storm in 2016 - yes Round 2 & 8/9/10

Dogs vs Eels - no it doesn't make sense like you said

That logic could be argued for the rematch earlier anyway - one or both clubs could well be 0-8, 1-7, 2-6 or similar and struggling for form. Not a fan of any short turnaround return clashes regardless of their prestige.

If they're put too close they do overshadow other things and detract from one another. You also have to consider obstacles like Easter, Anzac Day & Origin -- that's why I suggest Round 2 & 8 so there's a decent enough gap without pushing into Origin but each match is still recent enough in the fans' memories. By round 15 it's ancient history.

one or both clubs could well be 0-8, 1-7, 2-6 or similar and struggling for form.

That's true and for your worst case scenario they could be lopsided 0-8 -- or total failures at 0-0 -- that's my point.

If that trend continues and you've got your rematch in Round 13 onwards, what advantage do you get out of that match from a marketing perspective? Frankly, nothing. You've kind of pissed it away when they've either got no chance of making the 8 or it's going to be totally one sided. You've just killed it's marketing potential. And to be honest - we've seen the NRL do exactly that. It's a wasted opportunity.

By having it earlier in the season you minimise that risk. Remember 0-8 is better than 0-15.

I'd say at least 80% of the time in Round 8 or so you'd have have a second grand final replay match between two Top 8 teams when the Sharks vs Storm is still a meaningful match.

By Round 15 onwards we're thinking of that years contenders instead.

I wouldn't recommend it for any other match, but for the Grand Final Replays it makes more sense than the current system.
